Wild Wing Cafe in Farragut is adding a new twist to its daily offering of wings, beer and live music.

Beginning Monday, the 11,000-square-foot restaurant at 11335 Campbell Lakes Drive, will feature mini rail jams in its adjoining pond.

What’s a rail jam, you ask? It’s an event unlike anything, I dare say, most have ever seen.

Just a few feet from the action, spectators at Wild Wing Cafe will watch as wakeboarders are pulled from a high-speed, gas-powered winch off a man-made rail erected over a custom-built Malibu boat.

“We’re always trying to keep it fresh. It’s a good opportunity for us to work together,” co-owner Dave McFarland said. “We’re a cool place and what they do is cool, so I think we go together pretty well.”

The idea started as part of a kick-off promotion leading up to the third annual Bent Fork Bikefest, which is slated for Sept. 14-16 at World’s Fair Park and benefits St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

After checking with his insurance guy, McFarland and participants from Knox Wake and Overboard Water Sports/Mission Boarding Co. agreed to make it a regular event on Mondays, weather permitting.

The event, which starts at 6 p.m. and is free to the public, is sure to lure crowds to the restaurant on slow Monday nights.

McFarland, who is incorporating the event into his print and radio spots, expects that the exhibition will attract not only a younger crowd, but also more families.

“What these folks do is incredible. It’s going to be lots of fun for the whole family to watch,” McFarland said.

Wild Wing Cafe has 30 high-definition plasma televisions, an elevated stage for live bands, an outdoor tiki bar, and a scenic setting tucked away on a four-acre treed lot behind Cracker Barrel on Campbell Station Road, just a short distance from the Turkey Creek retail development.

Waiting for a table is not unusual, and patrons could see a potential expansion of the West Knoxville restaurant in the near future. McFarland already has expanded the women’s restroom. Applause.
