I hate the amoeba!

Ok so I was watching the news and another kid this time 10 years old just died from amoeba's. This is the 3rd person this summer. The scary thing is this time the only lake that this kid has been in was OWC. He was learing how to wakeboard and then about 4 days later got sick and then 4 days after that passed away. I wounder if OWC will close after this, its been all over the news. I sure hope the water cools off soon.

That is really scary - epecially since my lake is 6 feet deep and tha water has been over 90 the last like 5 times I went

Mr. Top Hat, yes, im aware. i took microbiology and learned all about them but recently the occurance of ameboas have been in florida... primarly....

i only know of one amoeba in california. did you ever wonder what the "a" in scott a stood for? he is just a giant amoeba

-=AlexXx=-, yes, im aware. i have reading comprehension skills, but if his lake has the right conditions to have amoebas then i wouldnt say he has nothing to worry about just because he doesnt live in florida.

they have not ruled out which lake.. they said the kid has been in multiple lakes so they cant confirm where. they did call owc and tell them to post signs

We had a simalair problem in holland, but the locals (including me and i spent the most time in the water Smash

)didn't got sick caus we kinda got used to it.

the water there doesn't have deadly ameoba.... it's just so toxic that the fish are mutating... Smash

VinceWhiteman, it goes up your nose straight into your brain and then causes it to swell, and brain swelling is just never a good thing. we're all still more likely to die from getting struck by lightning or driving a car, but at the same time it's important to be smart and maybe get a nose plug, just as we would not prance around in a lightning storm or drive drunk without a seatbelt. stuff like that.
