Alright, coming from wakeboarding, and just about to get my skate in this week. What should I start with? I know getting up and riding around, but then go to Wake jumps? ollies? I don't know how the progression goes in wake skating. What are some tricks to try out?

respect the board you ride--start small and work your way up. Learn boardslides and lipslides in all directions (frontside and backside), learn a proper ollie...I'd just recommend to find some board control first. it's going to make everything else a little bit easier. Good luck and have fun!

Definitely don't rush it. Take your time and feel out your skate and get used to riding unattached.

Enjoy it, it's all that really matters.

Alright.. So now that brings another question what is a lipslide? Is it like a butterslide but on the front of the board?

it's no different than doing a butterslide...butterslide is an old way of describing boardslides on the wake. are you familiar with rail terminology at all (coming from wakeboarding, or maybe even snowboarding)? Lipslides are when your tail goes over the obstacle (wake, rail, whatever) and boardslides are when your nose goes over first. Frontside is when the wake is at your toes, and backside is when it's at your heels.

So front lip (probably most basic lipslide)--have the wake in front of your toes and swing that tail over the lip so you're riding perpendicular to the wake. A front board is the same thing, except your nose swings over that wake.

wakeboarddrumma, a lipslide is when the tail of the board goes over the object you are sliding. a boardslide is when the nose of the board goes of the object you are sliding first.
fronside and backside has nothing to do with which way you are facing durring the slide. you are doing a fronside trick if the object you are sliding is towards your toes before you start the manuever. backside is when the object you are sliding is towards your heels before you start the manuever. Birthday
a butterslide is a general term people say when they dont know what they are talking about.

Sorry for the whole loss of terminology guys. I normally don't care what i'm talking about, long as i'm having fun. I know toeside, heelside, frontside and backside, but the lip slides are new to me as i don't do much more than wake2wake, and don't do much surface tricks.

wakeboarddrumma, search for "frontside lipslide" and "backside lipslide" on youtube. Look at the skateboard videos of people doing them. Its the same thing. If you still dont get it then search for "frontside boardslide" and "backside boardslide" Very Happy

I thought that the type of rotation you make to do the slide determines the "Frontside" or "Backside." Say you are riding toes to the wake, you pop up and throw your tail over the wake, that is a frontside Lipslide. If you were heels to the wake and popped your nose over the wake, Frontside boardslide. Am i wrong, because i have always heard these tricks messed up, so much that i don't even know anymore.

Steven M, yea BittenToDeath, if your heels are facing the wake, thats back side, since your back is facing the wake....

But you throw a frontside 90 to get your board perpendicular on the object. I think it is all bass ackwards. Oh well! Thanks for the correction.

Doesn't matter. The approach is what determines frontside or backside.
