Ok, this is in no way to say anything bad about Oak at all. I am stoked to have my board and am really itchin to ride it.....HOWEVER....

I found the fit and finish a little sketchy.....maybe its just me and i am expecting too much.

-The griptape was done kind of shabby (looked like it was done in a rush without regard of final product appearance).

-The ruberry sealant was put on nice and thick however it is like gobs around the edge (most of which i picked at already).

-There is scratching across the middle almost as if it were on a rail but with no rail marks....just scratches....i figure this came from boards being stacked up and grip from another board went across the middle and scratched it.

Maybe I'm just expecting that perfect shrinkwrapped board which yields no scratches and the grip tape being cut by a machine to get a nice straight even cut. Overall I am stoked to have it. It appears to be sweet board

So tell me this, am I overreacting?

Those griptape lines are way too wavy. You should call up oak and demand a new deck, that is just outragous! Rolling Eyes

Seems like really minor stuff to me. It's a wood wakeskate, and will get beat to death anyway, just go out and shred that thing.

If i payed full price for that, which im thinking of getting a new skate such as a oak. i would excpect it to be nearly flawless. it is a wood skate, its gonna get ding up, but i don't want it ding up before i even get to ride it.

yeah man i think you should just call and if they are professionals they should give you a new one. I had the same problem with my LF and they changed it immediately.

Give Mikey @ Oak a chance before you air your grievances publicly IMO.

don't get me wrong....Mikey and the Oak peeps are really cool. I have been chatting with Mikey some via e-mail and I just didn't want to sound like a beach the next time I e-mailed him because of some minor scratches and rushed grip job. That is why I am asking you guys. I just wanted to check to see if it was something I should just ignore and keep on rippin it up or something I should mention to him. It is very minor stuff because I am going to be shredding the board up anyways.

1st... its a scrathc hit 1 rail and its gunna be alot worse the that, stop being a girl.
2nd...if u dont like the grip job redo it uniquly, mike at oak has to HAND grip 100s of decks every day, every time ive talked to him hes been just getting done gripping or just going ot start gripping. not every company can afford high tech machinery, and honestly its nice to see that things are being done by hand! Grip tape is like 5-10 bux at the skate shop if it bothers you that bad.
3rd of all, if you didnt have that gloss all over your deck it would warp within a few rides and the bottom of your deck would have more concave then the top and you would face plant ever time u went for a lipslide or surface 180.

Also, i think you went about this wrong, take some advice from bueno and got talk to mikey about somthing like this first just outa respect.

It's not worth the trouble, just two minor cosmetic flaws that will be there after one set anyway.

Can you post some pics of the whole board.. top/bottom/side?

The scratches are not really anythig to worry about. They are not big and if your going to hit rails then it will just get scratched up.

It also looks pretty hard to cut around the edges of that board for grip becuase it is so rounded. When i took my board in to get a quick gripjob on my omen, the guy was cutting the edge and he slipped and cut right into the side of my board.

WOW....ok alexXx calm down......please reread what i posted just above your comment. This wasn't in grievance it was to ask if i should say something because it is rather minor. I love my new board and am going to keep it. I didn't post this to dog Oak in any way what so ever. From the very first line I typed to start this thread I made that clear. A simple yes or no on whether or not i should say something was all i was looking for. So I take your answer as a "no" I shouldn't say anything. Now hopefully you understand where I am coming from.

I'll report back after riding it. I'm sure there will be plenty of good word to speak of.

Check the nose/tail for vertical cracks inline with where the fine holes are. A friend of mines brand new Oak Moon Dog was cracked first time out at o-dab like to weeks ago. Mikey T is hooking him up with a new reportedly. Very Happy

same happened to me

nate-o, I realize ur not dogging oak, but i just think u shoulda spoke to him about this problem and not posted it to the public although u have every right to. Like i mentioned its kinda a repsect issue. non of us can do anything about your unhappiness, about a few minor cosmetic problems, although if u get cracks or bumps around your fin holes (i dont have fin holes to prevent this in depth) then u might have some issues. next time just try to talk to the owner b4 spamming the public with negative vibes, no worries man.

stop whining please. Its just wavy griptape. Oak is not a huge company like say hyperlite. They do the best they can and they make solid products. Sorry your griptape isnt straight

In the spirit of small companies trying to grow and produce better products, I would say you should get in touch with Mike from Oak and let him know about the board you got. He probably doesn't have a Quality Control department and maybe after a long day of gripping boards he is prone to letting some sub-par jobs slip through the cracks. I'm sure he appreciates customer input about the work he is doing. If you have already decided to keep the board, then great. Let him know that right off the bat, so he's not thinking that you are going to ask him for a new one.
I can see how the damage is not too big a deal, but I also know if I pay full price for something I expect it to be in pretty good shape when I get it. So don't worry about posting your question. Its not negitive about Oak, nor do I see it as taking a private issue public.
Just my 2 cents.
