It's been said that they could have each fallen overboard one after the other... Seriously, unless they were COMPLETE morons this would have been avoided... If you're going offshore in Australia, you take an EPIRB, and if someone goes overboard, you make use of the said EPIRB, and a helicopter comes and gets you...

There is definately something dodgy going on with it, my first thought was pirates as well, but then wondered why they'd be hundreds of kilometres offshore from anywhere... I now believe the people have just skipped town, run away with some pirate hookers or something...
