HatzicScape112, thats the stupidest thing ive ever heard....people can modify a board to the way they like it. also the catalyst is a different size than the byerly so maybe he wants that bigger skate but with grip

Some people like foam, some prefer grip, I am one of the latter.

Just a question of preference, I guess... Follow your heeeaaart.... Amen... Wink

NSR, i would suggest finding someone with a gripped board. although it might not ride the same dont worry about landing the tricks on it, just try to determine whether you like grip more than foam or vise versa. i rode foam first because thats mostly the choice back a while and rode grip and loved it just for the skateboard feeling. im used to riding and that grip friction you get (and dont forget the gnarly grip burns Twisted Evil )

dirtyohioriver22, people are lemmings. you should do what you want to do, otherwise i would suggest sitting on shore watching other people ride if your just going to do what they do

I rode both of my Catalyst ('04 and '05) with the foam first then switched them to grip and loved the grip more. It gave me more concave and felt better.

So yes, I would say it's a good idea for me. As for you, best I can say is try to ride one that is already gripped and see which you prefer. Or take the foam off so it is still intact and useable and if you don't like the grip, re-glue the foam back on.

would using griptape on a concave board instead of foam make concave seem much bigger and deeper cuz foam is thicker and the board was made for foam grip? i dont know if this is true its just my theory so dont get made Wink

Palms, you are right. As I said above, after gripping my '05 catalyst I got a MUCH improved concave. It was not only deeper, but more responsive.

Chris Barcellos, I actualy wouldn't recommend doing it the way that guy did. As far as removing the foam.

Best thing is if you live somewhere it is nice and hot like say 90 degree's plus, just leave your board out in the sun for like 3hrs. The sun will make the glue a lot easier to remove. I left my '05 Catalyst in the sun at like 98-100 degrees for i think 45min and it came off with out a problem.

And when gripping it, try to get 2 45in long pieces of griptape. then just line one pice up and then the other. Oh and if you have an old skateboard truck that has one wheel on it, that works great for removing air bubbles and getting the grip nice and flat.

Top hat had a karma and he gripped it, and u could see the concave and feel it so much more, i think it was better, but its personal preferance.

and,

HatzicScape112, that was a retarded comment think before you type.
