Making a winch

I've been thinking, since my boat is out of commission, would it be possible to make a winch, I have a 5 horsepower honda just sitting around, it runs like a champ and we havent done anything with it in over a year,. some dude was throwing it away, but back to the question, has anyone here every contructed (or tried) a winch similar to the grinch. I know its possible and I'm quite mechanically inclined, but I dont know if it would be something I could accomplish. It would be pretty sweet because there are a lot of canals where I live and I bet I could do it with a little help from someone who knows how to weld.

ripava82, Well it's pretty much still at the drawing board and i only have a few things but i am about to go work on the motor i found. I'm so glad that i might have saved like $200ish! Very Happy

I got lucky, some dude was throwing out a pressure washer, The engine runs perfect but the washer part is a pos, So I got an almost brand spankin new honda 5 horse for the price of food to walk a 1/4 mile up my street. Smile

im having a really hard time finding a good source of steel tubing, how much did all the steel run when you guys made your winch.
