Hey skating guy, a hardflip is actually like what you are describing in Tony Hawk. It is like a crazy hybrid of a shuvit, there is not kickflip involved, the board just does like a backflip and then like a half a flip so that it lands back with the base, or the wheels in the case of a skateboard on the ground.

1. For a hard flip, place your back foot on the tail and your front foot pointed somewhat forward near the heel edge. Hit the tail while sliding your front foot off of the board making it seem to come straight up at you. It will look like it is going to do a flip and land upside down, but with practice you will learn to make it perform a half-flip and land on its wheels. (You may want to try this without trying to land it the first couple of times.) At the same time, you will want to be rotating your body 90º in the frontside direction letting the board flip between your legs. When the board has finished rotating, rotate your body back to your normal stance and catch the board before it hits the ground. Land and ride away clean.

That is the trick description, I was just checking it out to confirm the hardflip.

Dude, I promise, a hardflip is a FRONTSIDE VARIAL KICKFLIP. I've seen the website that you got that trick tip from, and I know that a lot of hardflips look like they're a wierd half-backflip thing. Most kids think that that's what a hardflip is, because that's what it looks like and that's the way they do it in Tony Hawk, but I've heard pros and magazines say plenty of times that a hardflip is a fronside varial flip. It's just that if you don't suck your back foot up fast enough or scoop the tail the wrong way, the he board tends to go between your legs and not do a kickflip. (Trust me, I know from experience.)

Sorry for being so anal and skate-nerdy about the whole thing, but, you know, whatever...

k i kinda agree with you but still, a front varial flip is not the same as a hardflip, they are the same but the hardflip spins between your legs, thats the only difference

It's called a hardflip whether it goes between your legs or not; it's just everyone has their own style of doing it. Lots of people even do frontside flips where the board goes between your legs (especially on quarter pipes); it's just different styles for doing the same trick.

when doin frontside or backside kickflips on a skateboard, i find that initiating the rotation first by turning your shoulders in the direction u wanna go then flipping the board out about 90 degrees, helps. BTW there is a difference between a frontside kickflip and a frontside flip and im not quite sure what u guys mean by a backflip.

There's no difference between a frontside 180 kickflip and a frontside flip.

aka big somersault to red antler bee sting your moomoo mishnash HO! YES I'm talking about switch, YES I rip, YES I'm going to say no now, NO I don't have 11 fingers, and MAYBE I could go to the store and buy stuff right now, but PROBABLY I won't, because that's the way things are biznatch.

To sum it up, Andrew Reynolds has good frontside flips, Tom Penny has even better frontside flips, I have crappy frontside flips, and if I drove my car into a big enough curb going really fast, my car would do a flip onto its frontside and then topple over and kill me unless I landed in a ditch. But then ditch skating, of course, is a totally different story. I think Mark Gonzales might've been the first guy to frontside flip in a ditch.

with fs kickflips the board actually flips like a kick flip whereas a fs flip flips like a hardflip, between the legs.

There's really no difference. Every magazine I've read and person I've talked to has always used the terms interchangably. It's just such a common trick that no one really wants to spend the time and throat muscles to say "frontside kickflip" or "frontside 180 kickflip," so they say "frontside flip" instead. And even though I'm probably not going to convince you by regurgitating what I already said earlier, hardflips DON'T HAVE TO GO BETWEEN YOUR LEGS. Chet Thomas, Kris Markovich, etc. do between-your-legs hardflips; Mike Carrol, Bryan Herman, and Rob Dydrek do more "proper" frontside varial flip hardflips. It's just a matter of personal preference and style.

Kenny davis has done a frontside flip, but I don't think there's any video. I think he did that two summers ago at the end of the "season." Then he went snowboarding.

Also, I agree with skatingguy-frontflips and frontside flips are the same, and a hardflip is a kickflip with a frontside shoveit. bye bye

There's a video of Kenny Davis doing a frontside flip on this website, in the "video" section.
