I think it's quite gimmicky. People claim manuals and blunts on it, but it isn't a manual if you're balancing on your tail and it isn't a blunt if you're not on a fin. People have said you can ollie on it a bit better, but that's the only difference I see. Others have claimed they can do the "on the water bluntslides" on regular concaves, so that doesn't make the gate special either.

Two ideas I really like are the fins on the 4 trac and the weight distribution of the new mutiny's. Simple yet sophisticated....

I think it is a gimmick. Not because the kicktails won't help you a little, but because they could easily have added these things into the concave of the board and they could have done as good a job, if not better (remember, water isn't like concrete - It'll take too long to elaborate on that point) Think Bleecha (sp?) boards.

BUT, the marketing department at HYPE decided to call them 'kicktails' and market them as the next revolutionary thing in wakeskating, allowing tricks that are actually impossible, instead of creating maybe an updated concave shape. There is something flawed in the design of these boards.

Form over function, a Hyperlite tradition.

Hey feni, how much board length is left if you minus the kicktails?
I want to get a gate but if it's too small I'll stick to me catalyst 112 Smash

I'm leaning toward calling this board a gimmick, I don't see much thought put into it beyond the 'kicktails'. It seems everyone who is riding one thinks it's too light. I know ppl are putting lead bars under the foam to make it heavier.

they do need to make it alittle heavier. i think it would be like 110, that would be my guess, what size foot are you, im 10 1/2 and my feet almost go over the edges so that might be harder for other people to ride it with bigger feet.

electricsnow: then what would be called a manual on a wakeskate, can we ever do them because we dont have wheels?

electricsnow has a good point, but.... i think she is wrong i think balansing on almost the tail or the nose should be called a manual which it is.Brett Leadley, no affence but i think ur lying... lead bars come on. one that might be a little to heavy and what ur goin to ride with a big leadbar under the foam in the middle of ur board Rolling Eyes you might be right but i really dont belive that story

Whatever, ask ppl who ride out at owc. I think they were more like steel plates (thin) then what you're probably picturing- I'm not talking about something that looks like a gold bar sticking up from under the foam. My point was ppl who ride the thing are trying to add weight to it.

i used to ride my cassette, but recently i bought a gate...I love it...i found the kicks way easier to pop bigger ollies...it is a bit strange getting used to such a lighter board but as always after time i know i'll get used to it and it will be an advantage....the grips fine, different but nothing to complain about...and no more grazes!!!!! I think the Gate is a great board Twisted Evil

You really can't do a manual on a wakeskate, unless somehow you find a way to balance on something like the 4trac fins. Manuals are done by riding on one's wheels--that's it. With that said, if you're balancing on your tail I'd call it a tail press (the opposite of a nose press). Snowboarders never tried to poach manuals because they new they couldn't do them (and I don't think I've heard of one in wakeboarding either). THere are technicalities that make a trick what it is, so don't try to bastardize these tricks because of that.

Any other questions? I'm down...
