Gibsons sound a lot better than Epiphones...I have a Gibson SG Special and it sounds 100x better than my brothers Epiphone Les Paul.

It really depends on what kind of sound you're looking for though. The ES 333 will give you more of a classical/country sound, while your Les Paul will give you a rock sound. If you're looking for a guitar to replace your Les Paul and you primarily like rock music (Led Zep/AC/DC/etc) go for a Gibson SG.

I would do some research, look at the Gibson/Epiphone websites, see what they got, compare the guitars. Then when you figure out a couple you like, go down to a local guitar shop and try a few out. I'd highly recommend playing the guitar first before you buy it...it's a big investment, and you don't want to be dissapointed.

ZoSo, ive actually played some epiphones that ive really liked. i used to have an epiphone casino that was great but i sold it for some extra cash. honestly i think that most of the higher end epiphones are better quality than the lower end gibsons that are in the same price range.

Oh of course, I didn't mean that all Gibsons were better than Epiphones, I just said in general. Some of the custom Epiphones are really nice, and even if you got just a Epiphone Les Paul Standard you could still put a couple of EMG pickups in it and it would sound better then a lot of Gibsons.

Oh, and Hi, I wouldn't say SG's don't sound very good clean; they just don't sound as good as high end guitars like Les Paul's. SG's, especially Specials and Voodoo's have very high output pickups that are meant for distortion and rock...while Les Pauls have more refined humbuckers, which have less output, but better quality. IMO, my SG sounds fine clean, but again, it really depends on what kind of music you like and how much cash you got. Very Happy

wakeskatefooo, is it purely a hollow body or is there a block of wood running down the middle of it?
