That makes our sharks look like guppies. I think the biggest I've seen while surfing here is 6 foot. I did have a 10-12 footer swim underneath me one day, but it was a manatee so I guess that doesn't really count.

My riding spot is infested with sharks, dolphins, and ill-tempered mutant sea trout, but the thing around here that scares me the most is when I'm sittin in the water waitin for the rope and a 10 foot manatee pops up right next to me. This might not sound as bad as a shark, but when you freak out when you see it, it starts freakin out. That's like 1200 lbs. of big grey animal thrashing around, and when they hit you with their tail or their body, you're gone.

Ya, when I saw that one in the lineup I didn't even know what it was. It swam between my legs while I was sitting on my board. I saw like 2 feet before I even knew anything was there then it kept moving untill I saw about 7 feet before I pulled my legs up and was like what the F is this. I was already paddled in and standing before I saw his snout come up for air. I have never paddled so hard or ridden a smaller ripple for soo far. After I knew it was a manatee I padled back out.
