|
|
Hey guys, i just bought a nice old-school extended pylon for my '75 mastercraft. It's a one piece aluminum, 6 foot tall pylon. It's got a cable with a ratchet and then some rope with a seat-belt style sling on the end.
Now correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't the sling attach around the bow, then you ratchet it tight so the tall pylon has an anchor point as someone is riding from it?
The dude i bought it from laughed and told me that the whole cable/ratchet/sling set-up was to attach your tow rope from, and that it doesn't need any anchor points...just slide it on the existing pylon and go.
Am i trippin, or doesn't that whole sling set-up attach to the bow for stability?
I think that kid didn't know what the hell he was talkin about! _________________ "Whenever you find a man who says he does not believe in a real right and wrong, you will find this same man contradicting that a moment later."-CS Lewis |

It slides over the existing pylon and then the "sling" goes around the bow and then you ratchet it tight _________________ Go Balls Deep Or Go Home |

Man, that dude was trippin.
He was all, "yeah man, the pylon keeps the rope off the people riding in the rear seat...but when the rider falls and the rope goes slack, it kinda falls hard on their heads cause the cable and ratchet are heavy...so tell whoevers sitting back there to watch it when the rider falls so the cable and ratchet don't smack 'em in the head."

Yeah, that guys smoking pole... I've seen boats where people have tried to run without the sling and needless to say the only thing you'll accomplish is a "bent or broke pole" _________________ arson-wake.com |

Hahahaha I wish I saw that guy out riding. I would njoy watching those idiot trying to dodge that metal wratcbet. I would call that an epic failure. You are right though man. Make sure that the cAble is tight As heck. And don't tube from the top of it.
Boy I sure do miss the days of whipping eachother around the bow and then keep going. _________________

Hey, since this thing is only anchored from the bow, is it still cool to edge out hard into the flats?
My existing pylon is sturdy as hell, but should i try and add like 2 more anchor points....like at 10 and 2?
Or should it be fine? _________________ "Whenever you find a man who says he does not believe in a real right and wrong, you will find this same man contradicting that a moment later."-CS Lewis |

rockhouse, edge out as hard as you want. i wouldn't edge at 90 degrees to the pylon for a long time though.
that one point will be fine.
one of the things i highly highly would suggest investing in is this

I have one of those poles in my boat and it has to anchor points that go to the sides of the boat and a rachet strap/sling for the front. We dont have any problems when people edge out into the flats.
My friend has the same pole in a 16' aluminum boat and it is scary to ride behind.
when you ride behind his boat, the driver has top counter steer when someone edegs out into the flats. |
