Hi!

I'm thinking of trying to build a skate, mainly because i want something to do on the water.
I have previous experience of building longboards, i guess the method is pretty much the same.
The board will be mostly for just playing around, not doing some crazy tricks like you guys in here. Very Happy
Im a pretty tall guy 6'5" and weigh around 200lbs.

Although i have some questions:
The size of the template is 114cm (~45") long and 40cm(~15") wide, im thinking of around 2" rocker.
1.I'm planing on using 4mm birch playwood, how many layers should i use?
2.Continious rocker or 3stage, which one should i go for?
3.If 3 stage, how long should the flatspot be?
4. How should the bottom be, concave or flat?
5.I found 2 kinds of fins, which one is more suitable?

2 on each end

1 on each end

Feel free to add tips and pointers!

Cheers from Sweden!

the board sounds good, maybe a little big, but i would not go with those fins. check these out >

i have some very similar to them and they are pretty good

the fins youre looking at would be a bit overkill for me, especially two, but i would experiment with stuff and see what you like best

No need to ride such a large board really. I'm 6'2" 230lbs and have no problems riding the Integrity 38.65. I'd go wider and shorter if I were you.

okay, so what do you think of changing the spec to around 43" long and 16,5" wide instead?

Regarding the fins, the ones i picked is the ones i can get without ordering from US. There isnt much to choose frome here in sweden.

What rocker profile should i do, 3stage or continious?

Cheers!

Der Schwede, are you making a flat deck or concave board?

i'd go with 42 inches long and 15.5 inches wide if it were me

and i think continuous is probably easier to make than 3 stage and would be fine for cruising around

The first one will be a flat deck, later on maybe i will try concave or a bi level.

Right now the template is 42,5" (108cm) and 16,5" (42cm) wide.

The continuous will be a little easier but making a 3stage press is the same thing.

The thickness of the board, what are they usually, 1/2" ?

Cheers!

So last night i built the press. It will produce a continious rocker just under 2".

The plywood is ordered, it will be 4mm birch. I think i will go for 3layers.

Im playing around with the template, right now it is ~43"(110cm) and 16,2" (41cm) wide. How does that sound?

Should the edges be more rounded in the middle of the board and sharper towards the tail, nose?

I went to look for some fins a few days ago and the only ones i could find was nr.2 in the first post. Maybe they could work for now or maybe i should try to make some of my own. What do you think?

I'm so looking forward to building this thing, and ofcourse try it Very Happy

It havent begun yet, still waiting for the plywood to come in, the store didnt have it in stock. Ordered the fins today, went with the yellow ones, 22x100mm or 0.8" x 4".

I hope the wood comes in tomorrow Smash

Thanks, i had a chance to try it out a few days ago. Took a few trys to get up on that thing but eventually i was up. The board felt nice, abit slippery when riding straight in the flats. Im hoping to try it again later this evening.

So now i got some material left over for another board, this time im thinking bi-level.

From what i have read on here the hardest part for bi levels is weight and durabillity on the top deck.

Cheers !
