Ok I just came across 2 giant blocks of styrofoam from a wrecked dock both are about 4ftx10ftx2ft. I'm wanting to cut them down to make a long floating table top, anybody got any suggestions? Thanks. _________________ You make me want to punch a baby!

a hot wire is your best bet but that is not something most people have access to, hand saws work well but are time consuming, cable saws work great. hell i have even used a chainsaw to cut up foam thats washed up to dispose of it easier. |

we were thinking about a chain saw but I think that will shred the foam instead of making a decent cut. Hmm hot wire sounds interesting blow torch+wire=hot wire. Need some good gloves though. Also anybody know anything about making a floating box like at TSR? I've got the basic idea just dont know how much styrofoam to use to stop it from bobing too bad when you hit it. _________________ You make me want to punch a baby!

So I've been sitting at work drawing up a fun box, my sales rep just came back to check it out. His comment was "for a fun box that doesn't look that fun". It made me get to thinking he was right I wanna make something new so I am. haha I'm still drawing, I'm gonna have a few variations but i'll scan them and post shortly. _________________ You make me want to punch a baby!

Sagittorious, sounds good dude.
just make sure that (whoever your water police are) don't see it. it's illegal to have styrofoam floating anything in the lake. Or atleast it is in Tennessee. |

Well I'm hoping to put it down in the bayou in baytown. Right now I'm looking at spending about 68$ on just 2x4's. The box is looking to be 1ft tall 16ft long. The bonus is gonna be a 8ft long 1ft tall incline that bolts to the last 8ft box. My drawings are crude. _________________ You make me want to punch a baby!

Sagittorious, not to be a bonerkill or anything, but that's probably gonna come out to be 10 feet long, give or take. That's like getting on then immediately getting off when you're goin 20 MPH. If i were you, i'd make it like 18 or 20 feet long. Just sayin, bro. |

Each box is gonna be 8ft long 1ft tall and 3ft wide. Right now I just want to get 2 8ft boxes made plus the 8ft kicker. After I see how those go I'm going to build more or redesign. _________________ You make me want to punch a baby!

You can make a hot knife with a piece of bare wire and 12 Volt, 8 Amp Hour Battery. Just attach each end of the wire to the two leads and this cause the wire to heat up because you are creating a dead short. Just wear gloves. |

k so a hand saw worked great for cutting the styrofoam it was just alittle messy. The box looks nothing like what I drew up cause my bro that was helping with the build had another Idea and decided to do it his way. Im not putting anymore money down on that build. Its only 8ft long and wont be able to hook up to another box like I wanted to. O well like the saying goes if you want something done right do it yourself. _________________ You make me want to punch a baby!
