yeah hooks........way to think outside the box. it's ideas like this that make wakeskating so special.
that song is sick.....it reminds me of men dancing in ladies skins seriously though, great track.

i've heard songs used in a lot of wakeskate videos that i heard in skateboard and snowboard videos first. who cares? a good song is a good song. granted i do like to find new music through video's but still.. i could name a few off, but personally i think certain video parts were made better with songs that have been re-used. i don't remember which came first but i remember thomas' song in sfumato was in a few different video's, but i thought it was used best in his part over the rest..
edit: oh and also i thought murray's song in the hyperlite video (could be wrong, it could have been watson's song in the truth) was better used as jay adams song in dogtown and z-boys. _________________ i'm an asteroid! |

I only remember thomas' song being used in a snowboarding film called "lame." (both sfumato and lame came out in 03.) And they did a really good job with that song as well. Both videos, (the editors behind them), and of course the riding mediums are completely different, so they were able to do different things with that song.
I think it really depends, but personally, I think it's a lot sweeter if an editor can find a new song that fits the riding perfectly, and then edit creatively to the music without "overediting." I think it's way more original that way. That's one reason why I've always loved the cassette videos (as an easy example--oh yeah, throw up if you must). I can say that those films introduced me to music I'd never heard and it was not music that was "mainstreamy." It opened up my ears and my eyes at the same time. And the more I watch it, the more I pick up. (that's vague, but there's always something new with that video.) It's the same thing with his section in "wide awake." I watch that and I'm still amazed by it, and to me, THAT is good editing.
Anyway, the mark johnson song is also from "silence of the lambs" and it plays when the creepy killer guy is dancing in his homemade lady suit. I feel like that song shouldn't even have been used in any video, so consider me scarred for life. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |
