Ok so we have a 12 tooth tav 2 right now, with 60 tooth sprocket an our inside diameter of our spool is approximately 5 inches. We have a Briggs 6.5 intek ohv engine. We tried slide starting today, and also dock starting, but we had no luck,it has plenty of power to pull us through water but not enough speed to keep us on top of the water ,but like i said it can pull us through the water, like nothing...just really slow. I was wondering why no one makes the sprocket smaller like say i went down to a 50 tooth or something. Just wondering... also open to any suggestions

Lodi Winching, no.... if you leave the small spool and decrease the sprocket you lose all your torque....

it needs to be between 6 and 8 inch inner diameter spool and a sprocket between 54 and 72

key & lordi, increase your inner spool diameters.

i run 6.5 TAV 10t/68t with 7" inner, deep waters no problems!! does get a lil quick at the top end, i would consider going down to a 60 or 62 tooth sprocket, but she works so why brake her!!!!

key, changing your spool i/d is basically like changing the size of one of your sprockets it will either add speed or torque depending on if you go bigger or smaller

Lodi,
Did you take your governor off of the motor?
if not that may be your problem also.
