Well Slater has his 9th world title essentially locked after his win at trestles last week at 36 years old. He is making guys that are in their athletic prime look completely sub par to his surfing. So is Slater the best? I think so...
I bet even nicky t chimes in on this one

Yes, he is.

Cool

There's been no one in any true athletic sport to even come close to the number of wins this guy has racked up, not to mention number of insanely heavy waves he's ridden. MJ was a great basketball player but he ain't got shizzle on slaters competitiveness and talent

Soulprogression, Jeremy Mcrath won 9 supercross titles in a row. And Ricky Carmichal won 24 over outdoor races in a row.

PrimeO, I gotta admit that's pretty impressive, but slater has number 9 in his pocket, not in a row of course, 5 of which were however. but i have a feeling he's gonna go for 10, why not? especially when there's a huge bonus from quiksilver floating over his head. he's also won 39 wct contests and will probably rack up a couple more before he decides to quit the tour, if he ever does. I can see him like 50 yrs plus and still smoking kids at jbay

Tiger
Phelps
McRath
Farve
Pastrana
Slater
Mullen
Armstrong
Parks (first 1080 in 1999)
they are all pushing everyone to the extreme. I dont know if you can say anyone of them are better than the other. All of them are ridiculous. And Kelly slater is just nuts. 9???? thats retarted i bet he gets at least 11. Hes on his own level in surfing.

if your going by contest wins, Rodney Mullen won 33 freestyle contests and got second in another. Probably not very physically demanding, but to only get second once in like 10 years....but thats if we are going by contest wins.

Two words:

Michael Jordan

I am not knocking anybody else stated in this thread, but the guy was the greatest athlete, at least in my opinion, that I have ever seen. And yes, I have seen him play in person, something I am truly proud to say.

Tiger Woods has to get mentioned too, after what he has done to his sport.

Then you have Lance Armstrong, who battled his way through cancer and then went on to win 6 or 7 straight Tour De France races, before retiring on top of his sport.

Shame on all of you though for not mentioning MJ, who else could have won 6 NBA titles with Michael Doleac at Center?
