OK, I just started skating this year and I've been killin' it. There is a bad side though. I have been using my friends hyperlite scape that he got to try out the sport. Little did I know that I'd be dropping wakeboarding for it. What I want to know is how bad do I have it skating with the scape. Should I go ahead and get a new skate?

Yeah I would get a new skate you will be suprised with how much you will like a concave wakeskate. I would go with integrity which is an awesome board or demo the new bi level cassettes.

I say just go out and ride whatever boards you can get your hands on. Nothing is more important than being comfortable with your board.

HighRida,

I was using a scape for several months before changing to a more advanced board. You can read my info here:

Yeah, looks like I'll be going down to the shop to pick me up a new skate. Thanks for the input.

Hasn't the K series proven that concave is not necessarily better? Those boards ride like a dream. Yeah, fine, you have to mob the hell out of any flip... but there are only a few riders out there who legitimately use concaves to flick their tricks. George Daniels seems to manage (*drools over the backside flip on the cover of WBM*)

che blanc,

Going from eva top to grip was a major improvement for me. I had only used eva top before I got the Integrity board. It was more difficult to reposition my front foot with the grip tape(which is a good thing in many ways). My wife and I were both impressed how much better grip tape holds your feet to the board than eva top. I have only tried the eva top on the Scape series boards though so maybe the eva top on the Kampus boards are better. Before trying grip tape I was 100% into just using eva top. I have now flipped that decision after trying the Integrity grip. Your feet stay on the board better when the water is rough doing boardslides, etc.

I still like the idea of eva top though to get others into the sport. They can go barefoot without any worrying about scuffing up their feet.

Kampus EVA is far superior to Hype eva, as far as boards go the K series should get the simple geneious(sp?) award, it's such a basic board, but it just works so damn good, not to mention affordability. Another option Im impressed with is the rubberized grip from Kampus I feel it's the best of both worlds

livewirelp, you pinned it exactly. Concave is preference not a must. It is a must for me but some don't like or need it.

Maybe it's just me but I tested out the rubberized and it felt like I was slipping and sliding everywhere, Iono, maybe I just got a bad bit of it.
