col101, Burton(mainstream, but quality), GNU (would be my first pick), Capita, Lib Tech , Academy...
They are similar, but keep more weight on your front foot instead of the back... _________________ 10101 |

It's more like wakeboarding then wakeskating for obvious reasons IMO...but the dynamics are still different even from wakeboarding to snowboarding...although if you do have a wakeboard/wakeskate background it will probably help you pick up snowboarding fast.
I'm a bit of a snowboard noob myself, but you can't go wrong with Never Summer, Burton or Lib Tech...though boots/bindings are always more important then the board...if you're going to cheap out anywhere, cheap out on the board.
If E-Snow doesn't reply to this (which she probably will), shoot her a PM...she's super nice and knows a lot about snowboarding and snowboard gear. |

O yea...and use your front foot as your pivot foot to switch edges. And...you want your upper body to "counteract" your lower body...ie turn the opposite direction like your trying to pop your back while sitting in a chair, but not that extreme _________________ 10101 |

I'm guessing pretty hard actually means different. _________________

Snowboarding is like bobsledding. I can't really think of any differences but they are almost identical. |

I don't think snowboarding is anything like wakeskating. I think the main thing it can give you is just a feeling for riding sidewayz and having that sort of balance.
If you're going to a rental shop, i'm not sure how many options you'll have when it comes to boards. I just know that at my local hills they have a rental fleet that's generally pretty shiznackle. There were reps...either ride or nitro, that tried to put together a good deal for my local hill and they declined. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

electricsnow, well said. you are straped in. The board is longer. it is narrow compared to a wakeskate.
If you are going to buy a board make shure it is between your chin and nose. For park you want a little bit shorter board. If you are going to ride powder you want to be further on the tail instead of an even stance. It will look weird but it is so you don't catch your nose and it is easier to ride through. |

actually, the "chin and nose" sizing method is common, but isn't totally correct. If you want the best fit, size yourself up based on the weight range (but don't forget about your foot sizing because you may need something to help you avoid toe drag if you have large clod hoppers). A kid could weigh 175 and be 5'3 and a board that lies between his chin and nose will be way too small because it will not handle his weight. Your body weight is what makes that board react.
But as you said if you're wanting a park board (that's presumably a bit softer for your sweet krooked presses and smith/feeble presses), set yourself higher in the weight range. If you're wanting a pow board or something stiffer (if that's what you like), set yourself a bit lower in the range. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

ok i dont know what you guys are talking about

i've been snowboarding for 7 or 8 years and i never put weight on my front foot unless i'm doing a nose butter, or if i'm turning my board sideways to stop
the weight goes on the back foot the majority of the time _________________ http://www.stickandflick.com
