Hey man sorry about the delay, I would go to a surf shop and ask a shaper like at Nichols in New Smyrna or look on 2ndlight.com.
Normally unless you are experienced or just dont care it would be best to let a pro do the glassing.
Also is that foam? You probably would want to add a stringer. _________________ - Mead-Hall |

I finally built my own board after wrestling too small boards and griptaped childrens wakeboards.....because I am a big guy 2m(6"7') and 155kg(350lbs) with shoe size 16US I wasn't able to ride normal boards the proper way....but now with my: 120(47") 45(17,7") wide with 35(13,8") tails it's the best.....I can finally cut hard, deepwater start and pop higher ollies then ever.
It is made out of 5 layers of ply with a 1 layer fiberglassed bottom and a celrubber(neoprene) deck that grips like hell!!

apple103, you should make a concave deck, looks like you did a nice job on that flat. _________________

I asked this before, but will you keep the wood bottom, or is it just there for the shape? I think if you sand it down very well, it is worth fiberglassing it! but keep in mind that is a lot of work.....cause you'll need a lot of layers to make that foam rigid enough! _________________ Never winch in shallow water.... |

apple103, right now the wood bottom is staying there for shape, i was debating fiberglassing the wood and the foam together, or just glassing the foam and figuring out how to make it a bi level. im definatly going to need to make it heavier, so it's either going to go with the wood somehow, or id have to find a way to make the foam heavier. _________________ "it feels good being on the caboose of the progression train"

From what I have read so far, it sounds like WWSA glues the plys together, then puts them in the jig to shape them. I was thinking about shaping each ply first by soaking the ply in water to soften it and then dry it in the jig. Then when I have all my plys shaped, glue them together and press them in the jig again for drying. Would I just be wasting my time with the extra steps?
Also, how much rocker is lost when you take the plys out of the jig?
I'm hoping to build a skate over the summer, just need to get a good plan together first.
Cheers,

When you have thin plys glue them together and immediately put the "sandwich" in your jig and let the glue set there! The recoil of my board when I took it out was hardly noticable.....Just make sure you use thin plys and good glue, urethane or epoxy! God luuck making your own, nothing beats the feeling riding your own! _________________ Never winch in shallow water.... |

apple103, thanks man! You did an awesome job on your board... one of the best homemade ones I've seen. How many plys did you make yours, and how much does it weigh?
At a local lumber warehouse I can get 1/8" birch plywood sheets. Couldn't get maple smaller then 1/4". I'll look a couple more places, but it seems like birch should be fine too. _________________
