Alright, heres my standing on this.
First Im pretty sure that not all Chevys can run on ethanol. I bought a 06 Silverado with the aluminum block 5.3 and im just about 99% sure i cant run ethanol.
If people really want to pull better gas mileage out of their trucks, it can EASILY be done. The downside is that itll cost you some cabbage. On my 00 silverado 5.3 i had, it was getting 13 mpg. I then put dual exhaust, cold air intake, and a custom tuned PCM in it and i got 19 mpg, thats not on the highway either.
For you diesel guys( i wish like hell i had one) with aftermarket mods you can be gettin up to 28mpg on the highway, and 22 with just a programmer or chip.
Tunes and programer generally run about 200-500
Exhaust runs from 250-700
Intakes run from 200-300
I payed 900 for my stuff, and I reused the intake and PCM ( got a retune) on my new truck. I guess if i really wanted i could hacked off my exhaust, but it was a exhaust shop cat-back, not a name brand.
On boats you cant run ethanol because itll eat up your gas lines and ef your stuff all up.
Anyways I realize not everyone wants to spend that type of money on things that most people dont have a clue about. But im just saying, there are ways to get good mpg with some mods.
As far as oil goes, maybe we could get to the point where we'd be self sufficient and wouldnt have to rely on foreign oil. Oh and just some FYI the boating industry only uses in the area of 1% of the nations oil usd all together. So anywho like PIRATE said, maybe we can get someone who will actually physically make shizzle happen and not just blow smoke our way. I dont give a shizle if theyre rep. or dem. just as long as they start doin something. _________________ They call me Dr. Jones

it never screwed with my boat, hell i even put it in my ski and it never screwed with it, and if you put it into your newer vehicles it wont hurt them but it will hurt your mileae some. the computer in your vehicle reads the quality of fuel so if you run E85, it isn't as good as the 91 octane it will push more fuel into the engine trying to get you up to speed. vehicle manufacturers set the computer up to run at its best on 89.34 octane. _________________ .............for no particular rhyme or reason............. |

hyfliteskate but eventually the ethanol will ef your fuel system up. Maybe the new boats are equipped for it, but im pretty sure they arent. Call up your local dealer and talk to the service manager, being that most places cost 90+ an hour to work on your boat _________________ They call me Dr. Jones

things that don't run E85 can be easly converted. My friends jette runs on cooking oil that he gets for free from mcdonalds. _________________ Choose your own path before it is chosen for you
