Put in the size of your spool for tire size and remember to add for rope, enter your gear ratio under one of the last 2 and leave one at 1:1 and it should save you some headaches!
By the way, I am new to this site but have been searching and researching for weeks on how to build a winch and did not have to post a singe question. Use the search button:) I will post pics in a few weeks when I am done, and if your in michigan look me up. Me and my "wench" will be tearing up the local ponds:)
P.S. My winch will cost under $350 with 600 ft of spectra. My steel was freethough. _________________ Treat life like a rental car |

woah man, care to share where you got the spectra from? I just ordered my rope, 500' for dacron coated kevlar, 1/8", for $60 but spectra would be awesome. Mine is looking to cost just around $350 including buying steel. |

Good find Melv,
If you have a digi camera I'd like to watch your work in progress. The other winch building thread is great. |

Hey Norcalz71, let me know right away if that rope is any good, I see the working load is only 150 lbs. I won't be doing any deep water starts but for the extra $60 I might go with the amsteel. I got some guy wire rope off ebay and it was crap, it stretched like a mutha so I am sending it back!

It is super strong, but too stretchy, so stay away from this stuff.
I will take pics and keep you updated. _________________ Treat life like a rental car |

melvin, i saw that dacron stuff on there too, figured it was too high stretch, it is definitely strong though. the stuff i ordered has a kevlar core the dacron is just for protection or so im told, i know its only 150 lbs constant working load but i think the 770 lbs tensile break strength is whats mostly important, the harshest load is only during the 1-3 seconds of deepwater starts everything else is very low. I will let you know how it goes as soon as i can get this thing ready, I know another guy on here, martijn, used a rope with identical ratings for over a year and it was alright. |
