Posted: Dec 02, 2003 9:57 pm Post subject: My Interview with Thomas Horrell |
|
|
Alright, I had to do this project for a class, and interview someone heres the whole thing, it was an email interview and as you will notice, Thomas didn't take it very seriously and I thought it was pretty funny.
The 1st 7 questions are mandatory, I didn't make them up , the teacher did, so I have to ask them... And you could answer them from a pro wakeskater standpoint or from the point of you owning a company. Either one would be fine.
I’ll do my best, how about I answer these questions coming from a point somewhere in the middle?
1. Could you describe how you arrived in the position you are in today?
Your teacher just asked one of the most vague questions I’ve ever read.
Let’s see, after awaking from my slumber, at 8:13 A.M. I crawled out of a wooden platform bed to the bathroom where I tried to clean up my act a little. Then I walked to my kitchen and made myself a smoothie (even though some of the fruit is frozen, it’s still good) and half an egg and cheese sandwich. 4 years ago, I bought a house almost 44 years old that I call my home. The radio is an original that came with the house, and it takes a minute to warm up as I ate my breakfast sitting down this morning. Driving in my car I sat and pressed buttons in, turned knobs left and right, and twisted my head side to side looking out windows. Waving at the crossing guard (a silver headed, stocky man with pilot’s glasses and a mustache) I rounded my favorite intersection, right before pulling up in front of my office. After turning on the lights and walking around the office for a minute, I approach my final “resting” place: The seated position I’m still in now.
2. How long have you been in this position?
About 8 hours.
3. What are your responsibilities?
To remain in this position until I can’t focus on the screen in front of me anymore.
4. Who do you answer to?
God, Family, Friends, Accountants, Lawyers, Financial Advisors, CEO’s, Landlord’s, Manufacturers, Employees, and a Girlfriend.
5. How are you held accountable for this job?
Ultra Self Motivation with a side of Red Bull.
6.What is the salary range for this job in Florida?
Anywhere from $15,000.00 a year to $3 million a year.
7. What specific skill do you need to perform your job?
Creative Visualization and the answer to question number 5.
8. How long did it take you to get where you are?
26 years 59 days.
9. What type of education do you have?
A high school diploma and a crash course in business from some Ivey League Masters Grads.
10. How many hours do you spend a day between wakeskating and working at Cassette?
About 16 on average, but its not really an hourly thing.
Thanks so much Thomas, you really have helped push this industry, and I love your riding style. -Justin
As a side note, don’t be offended if these aren’t really the answers you were looking for to the questions asked by your teacher or for your assignment. I find it extremely difficult to answer personal questions about my life. My job is my life and sometimes I have trouble separating the two. If you’d rather do a phone interview, with some more detailed questions, I’d be happy to. My phone number is below, call me up if you have anything else.
Hope your assignment goes well and if you need any more help, I’m here. thomas |

Depending on your current level of education, I would turn that in. Do the project appropriately and seriously though. It gives a good perspective of a lifestyle you normally don't and won't see in the "real" business world run by corporate sluggers. Your instructor may appreciate it. _________________ Don't be stoooopid. |

Well I am a sophomore in college, I turned it in as is, the teacher is real cool, she waterskis, and said she had heard of Thomas.. She just laughed at it and gave me a 50 out of 50. So I was happy. _________________ ::The Endless Summer 05::
