I think a string could cause you to get hurt some how, and I wouldn't recommend it.
To me, splits are part of the sport. Just like getting cut by the griptape, or smacking your head on the board ... |

poly-urethane laque, you can buy it at any good paint-shop |

How thick did you make it? I useally use 3 sheets of Birch-triplex 4mm thick so it is only 12mm thick but its strong enough to make even the biggest jumps without breaking |

it's really difficult to make it completely symetrical, I think you won't notice a thing while riding it, you can ride practicaly anything that can float, so good luck. |
