Heres a couple pics of the new rail over here at the "Opa-Locka" Canal. Its a very small rail, at only 8 feet long. But in sfumato, Jim Leatherman hit a small rail which I think was either 8-16 ft long, so it should be alright. Its double "Trex" for ns slides, ns presses, and hopefully blunt slides. Its about 10-12 inches off the water.

That's a prime rail to session, the falls might be a little painful though considering the depth of the water, sick construction none the less. Big spender with those trex eh?

I'm not sure how much experience you have on rails, but if you are new to it, then this will be perfect to start off with. I think you will find that it will be a little too short once you get the hang of it. But, from what I see in the pictures, you can easily make it longer. It really doesn't need it to be as wide as it is if you are trying to cut cost. Have fun and nice work.
If you extend it, cut some of your sliding suface back about two feet or so and let the sliding surface extend two feet off of the new piece. When you put it together, it will overlap onto the existing piece. This will help keep it strong when you put it together and will keep a "lip" from forming on the extension from trying to align two seperate rails. Did that make sense?

Patrick Quinn, I've tried to build rails w/ scraps before and nothing ever worked. I had the Trex from a couple skateboarding rails, but I dont mind spending the money to make it nice - I think it'll be worth it anyway. Oh ya, and I've fallin onto sand before, its not as bad as you would think.
Dave, I've hit rails before, never any shuv on shuv off stuff yet, but with this one I wanted to be able to NS and Tail press w/ the 4-Trac so I made it wide. I hear what your saying about extending it - I had to read it twice to get it , but it makes sense. It will be too short, so prob in a week or two I'll extend it to 16 ft, which should be easy to do as the rail went in very easily.

that rail reminds me of a time over the summer when my friend jake and i found a picnic table bench and we put it in a little cove where only a sea-doo could get into. since it was a spur of the moment thing we had no way of keeping it put. it was made of wood so it kept floating away. so we just got some rocks and put them all around the legs of the bench. it was pretty sketchy and seeing how it was my first rail i had ever hit i was wondering about it. i kind of got it once put the top of the bench was painted so it didn't slide to well. we went back the next day and it floated away.

w2wridaw2w, The weather was good until fri. Now its like 50-60 degress and a bit too cold to ride w/o one, to us down here anyway. Oh ya, we've tried usung 2x4's to hold rail up before. They dont seem to work. This time we used 4x4's (we cut pointed ends on them) and a sledge hammer (see pic above). we found a sandy area along shore and just beat them into the ground. They were a lil bit shaky, bc there are in sand, so we but a 2x4' in to brace the 4x4'. Now its as solid as a rock.

Trex is a type of deck surface. Its like the equivelent of plastic 2x6's....thats the grey stuff on the top of the rail.

Is that rail near the Miami wakeboard camp? I got a pull down there yesterday, lots of good wakeskate rails and not another boat on the lake all day long on a saturday. Here is a shot of the rail we just built on Osborne, Dave was trying to front lipslide it for some reason. He wraped around the posts with both shins.
