I thought I put this thread in the Subvert Magazine forum, it was just on comment on the first two interview they did for the first issue with Patrick Fennimore and David Legler. |

You did put it in the Subvert forum, Patrick. If one of the moderators didn't read those interviews then it may have been hard for them to see that you were referring to Subvert. So, that's probably why it got moved.
What I got from your post is that you think it's a classless move to ask someone who they would never ride for. Perhaps this asssumption is wrong; but anyway...
I think that most of the stuff Subvert has put up so far is pretty f*cking good. It's good to finally see a wake mag/site that isn't castrated. |

Sorry Patrick, that was my fault. I moved this topic to General Wakeskating because I didn't catch the relation to the articles. It is in both forums now (shadowed in the Subvert forum).
SCBrips,
Can you elaborate on this comment some more?

I think he's getting at the point that someone like ohhh... WBM would never say anything against anyone who advertises or people they know.
And technically Subvert is classified as a mag/site.
But hey, maybe I'll let Jacob answer... _________________

Yeah, that's pretty much what I was going for, Josh.
Take for example Josh's Foundations article. Aside from myself, I'm sure there were plenty of other people who read that and thought, "finally, somebody said something" (referring to the 484/LF fiasco, among other things). You think you would read something like that in WBM or Alliance? Stuff like that article is so necessary in my opinion; just to educate the average rider for one. Why not share your sentiments about what is going on?
Also, I don't think Subvert is just trying to showcase one side of the sport. There was a healthy amount of 484 bashing; but in the same "issue" they gave coverage to 484 riders. I think that's great.
It just seems like there's way too much emphasis on pleasing an advertiser rather than informing the consumer. I just really like how Subvert is basically providing an open forum for people to speak their minds. And in the end, it's the readers call on who's right and who's wrong.
Oh, another thing I was referring to is the language that is used. Maybe it doesn't matter or maybe it just seems juvenile to some, but I liked that there wasn't any censoring of profanity. I can understand why you may want to censor profanity on a messageboard. But in a well thought out article, I think that it is at many times necessary in order to truly express one's own opinion. It can be used effectively to show emotion and passion, for example. So many mags that I've read seem so worried about editing content so they won't offend rich kids' parents.
Overall, I think that Subvert is carrying out a selfless act - Sacrificing potential advertiser $$ by offering a broader range of ideas in order show the reader what's going on. |
