Hampson does them like on a skateboard, ollie and drag your foot off the rail (drag) , unlike Horrell and McGuckin who ollie off the board and kick at the lead corner (poke)

Todd's got it. I've tried a few, inside out like Thomas and I get really close, like i just need to catch the board and i'll have it. As for Hampson style, its like on a skateboard, therefore you can throw them in the flats and consitently. So, I think learning Hampson style would be worth it in the long run.

Not sure if my advice would be any good as I have yet to land one, but here goes anyway.. I'm trying it from inside out, Horrell/McGuckin style... main problems i encounter is either tapping the board too far up in front and too early, causing the nose to dive down.

The other problem occurs when i do get the flip right, i don't lift my back foot high enough and it catches the board after half a flip, and I end up stomping it like a darkslide to face grind or ball slap. haha... have fun...

I have the same problems Kian. I always let my back foot get in the way. Maybe it is becuase I've doen them for so many years on a skateboard and I didn't have to lift my back foot so much because the board is so much smaller??

skatingguy
not really, b/c the board is heavier. I've tried 'em on a 40 and 43' cassette conaves, and I've gotta just a hair closer on the 43'...so maybe the size of the board doesn;t matter that much. Also, when I try them, i don't kick it real hard, b/c they're so heavy that their inertia should flip them...my theory anywayz

I havn't landed one yet, but suck your knees up like crazy. I have landed on the board plenty of times just upside down. I kick it to hard and face plant=bloody nose.

"Mob" is where you kick your foot down like an angry donkey instead of flicking it off the board. Most skateboard pros have "flicked" kickflips, where the foot goes straight off the end of the nose and flicks the board into a spin; the front foot never gets below the level of the board, and it makes your kickflips a whole lot prettier and more under control.

Dave, know exactly what you mean mate... you think you get the flip right and its rotating nicely, then, "tonk!' your back foot stops the rotation and stomp it upside down... I used to do them on the skateboard as well and suppose you're right about it being the cause, back foot's used to being somewhat lazy...

Guess will just have to really consciously lift up the back foot before "mobbing" it.. kinda breaking up the trick in stages:

1) ollie (this probably applies more to kickflips off the lip or off the wake, I guess);
2) suck up both knees as high as possible;
3) "mob" the heel edge as close to the middle of the board as possible with front foot;
4) spot the completed flip and catch with both feet;
5) absorb landing...

what dya reckon?

Congrats Chase, that's really cool.

Kian,
That sounds like a plan. I try them here and there, but I never really kept trying them over and over. I'll have to take your approach and give it a try.
