Check out these videos of Aron Gore nose pressing a table top rail between two ponds. Gore nose presses across the first time and then he added some flavor to it the second time.

This is an intense subject because of the legitimacy issue. It can't be called a nose manual UNLESS he is only on the fins and not the board or the nose. I hesitate to call it a nose press because that comes from snowboarding and wakeboarding where the board flexes and is not on fins. I don't know what you would call it if he were on the fins and the nose. I would really like electricsnow to further explain this... I tried though _________________ √ |

that would be a nose 5-O or O-5 if u like, see it as when you slide on your front truck on a skate the same way you would 50-50 if u were on both... no?
edit:
*wips out his skate encyclopedia*
Nosegrind: grinding on only the front truck.
Noseslide: sliding the underside of the nose end of a board on a ledge or lip.
So what we got here is a nosegrind to BS shuv out _________________

I knew this was going to be debated, so I wanted to make sure that I called the trick the same as Gore. According to my sources, Gore calls it a nose press, so that is what I called it. |

Dave Barousse, It's good that you asked him. I see this as less of a debate and more like a few guys calmly trying to figure out what it would be. I like when we can solve things like this _________________ √ |

My opinion is nose press. He is pressing his nose to the table, therefore nosepress. The flex point is just the fins as oppose to the board actually flexing.
And i think a nosegrind would have to be on a rail, making it almost inpossible. Maybe with a lock. |

NOSE PRESS = WHEN THE FRONT OF THE BOARD AND THE FINS ARE TOUCHING WITH THE TAIL OF THE BOARD ELEVATED HIGHER THEN THE FRONT.
NOSE MANUEL = WHEN THE ONLY THING TO EVER TOUCH THE BOX/RAIL AFTER THE BOARD LEAVES THE WATER IS THE FRONT FINS. AND YOU LERALLY RIDE ON THE FRON FINS OF THE BOARD. (see ryan lemons sequence from a couple months back)
can we all agree on this ????
Greg T, dont get me started on the lock |

Sick 2nd video! I really dig the spirit of it all: go on recon, find a good spot, setting up, hitting the box and the shuv out !
Respect for the riding too!

if he did hit that same rail sideways we would have called it a lipslide or a boardslide right?
then why not call this a nosegrind, cause that's what it is, he is grinding on the nose of his board...
I really don't know why they started calling nosegrinds nosepresses in snowboarding, I can see how you press on your nose to flex the board, but still it's a nosegrind...
I agree that the manual is on the fins, and that's a sick sick trick _________________

PIRATE, i only disagree with part of the second one. it's unbelievably hard to ollie up and land on fins only and keep going like that. i think if you ride fins only on a rail then it's a manual, you don't have to land like that
but either way Gore's crap is sweet. |

Morphine, thats what makes that trick hard. when you skate and you manuel a box do you ollie, land on top and then manuel off the end??? NO!!!!
you land in a manuel and go off in a manuel. |

I wouldn't call it a nosepress if he has fins on. I know gore has called it that before...I thought he called one of his old tricks that (when he was on a 4-trac). but I think the trick deserves more credit than that...it just looks like you're leaning way more when you have some fins on, as opposed to following the rocker line.
I used to call his tricks nosegrinds, but others were calling lemon's trick a nose manual. Either or...let's face it, you don't have trucks or wheels, but you have some fins that are replacing one or the other. To each his own.
Nekkie, I think they're called nosepresses because there's NOTHING to grind. You're just on the base of your board...I'm sure it came about because the jibbing renaissance guys are heavy skaters (jp, jeremy jones, blah blah blah). And I'd agree with it.
And even when jibbing was getting popular in wakeboarding, people would be all about "grinding" when technically, you're not doing a "grind." So you know, people got pissy, which seems to be where the term "sliding" comes from....which sounds just as lame whatever, again, it's (I stole this term from transworld, but I like it) "skatenerding." _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |
