i had an idea while messing around in woodshop, i was wondering what all of you people think. i want to make a wakeskate out of solid stock, birch or something. so here is my thought, run the shaped skate through a table saw a few times near the tail and nose, but not cut all the way through. after both ends are cut i will put some kind of bonding agent (undecided) in all of the grooves. i will then place the skate into a jig with the rocker and everything pre-set. i will clamp it in and wait for it to dry. hopefully this will help it hold its shape and produce a half way decent skate. i attached a paint drawing of my idea.

the way i was thinking about it is, a glued bond is stronger than the actual wood so, lets say i used some kind of resin or epoxy, technically it should be stronger than wood.

EDIT: i forgot to thank you for your input, thank you

BLP010, but your breaking down the original structure, i just dont see how it would be a good idea. maybe input from those that have made boards, or kento, hes a workshop encyclopedia. lol. best of luck if you go through with it, i am very interested to see how it would turn out.

BLP010, i think it would be better instead of cutting it to just get a solid chunk of birch and carve a rocker into it. (no plys)

yeah, i mean i see where you are coming from. i originally asked my dad and he said to use some kind of fiberglass epoxy, then i though i could do that then put a few layers or fiberglass sheets over it to help with the structure. besides all i will be out it like $15-$20. i think it might be worth a shot but i figured id ask everyone what they thought first.

BLP010, you could do that But I would laminate a top and bottom ( the fiberglass idea is good, maybe one sheet of 1/16 in/ think wood and one sheet of high oz. fiberglass top and bottom) sheet on there after you do it, It still might snap though, you are correct about the glued bond, but your increasing the amount of leverage you can act upon it so I dont think it will work out to well, but try it, of course you could do the rocker the old fashioned way, press it??

i have one, and i talked to a guy that does fiberglass work and he said he would help me lay the fiberglass at his shop. i am taking my jig over there tomorrow, and finishing the deck at school tomorrow. he said it would work and be super solid so i am just going to try it. i figure if it breaks im out $20 max.
