I've been thinking about getting a waverunner to ride on the inter coastal with, but I have no idea what kind of maintenance is required for driving it in salt water.

I read some article and it said you need to flush the engine after every time you drive it, but is that really necessary?

Also I'm planning on keeping it in the water anchored, is that going to destroy it? In which case I might just buy a really cheap one

Flush, flush, flush and did I mention flush?? Actually if you have closed cooling the salt does not enter the block and you are really just flushing your exhaust system and exchanger. As you are in a corrosive environment you should regularly spray down your engine with anti corrosive spray, or WD40 works fine. When I had a seedoo I ran it in salt water. I launched and pulled out after every ride followed by a complete wash and flush. Do not under estimate what salt and brackish water will do, even the salty air will add to the corrosion.

If you have a non galvanized trailer make sure you rinse immediately after pulling it out of the salt. Corrosion sets in when the air makes contact with the metal that has been in salt water.
