I sprained my ankle almost a year ago skateboarding and it's still swollen.

The swelling went down a little from when i hurt it, but there's definitely still a lot there.

I was reading and some people have said that a cortisone (steroid) shot would take down swelling.

Has anybody ever tried that? Or do you know a way i can get the swelling out without a shot?

I realize this isn't a medical science forum, but i'm sure there's some skateboarders on here that have sprained ankles before or at least had to deal with swelling.

Have you seen a doctor about it?

Sounds like you got more then the common sprain. Probably a break or fracture. Go to the doctor. Idea

I agree...sounds like there might be something broken. I'd see a doctor for sure. I've sprained my ankles many times throughout the years and the swelling has always gone down with the usual R.I.C.E. routine.

yea i've been to the doctor, they've x rayed it and said it wasn't broken. one of the doctors said it might just be swollen forever and i'm not willing to accept this because it still hurts.

Go to a different doctor. There could be several reasons for the swelling, almost all treatable.

I had a similar problem with my ankle. The x-ray showed a small chip. The doctor said the chip was irritating tissue around it to cause the swelling.

Gnarly Dancer 42, I have sprained my same ankle quite a bit through basketball, skating and whatnot...Swelling always goes down but never back to normal. Dr. said it is permanently swollen in that one spot.
