nr-racing.com

I got the yellow clone 6.5 with 8 hp hop up kit. 6.5-8 hp should be plenty with a TAV I've never had a problem getting pulled by it.

R6aries, the bigger the engine never hurts man. Everyone always claims all you need is 6.5 hp but I honestly believe that is a myth. I've tried it and it blew chunks, especially if you've got some heavier friends it won't work. I know someone is going to try and call me out and say I didn't have the right gearing ratio or inside diameter on my spool but their full of it. 6.5 hp engines only work for 12 yrs olds. I wouldn't suggest getting anything lower than a 8 hp engine. I'm currently running a 10 hp engine b/c some of my friends are heavier and it works good. I've tried the harbour freight 6.5 hp engines, it kinda worked for a season but only for me (I'm the same weight as you). It was progressively getting less power, I was riding slower and slower each time I went out, till latter found out from only about 10 times winching I had broke a piston (how ever the f*ck that happens?). Thats when I decided to get my current engine. I'd suggest throwing down some money now on a good quality engine that you now is going to last for seasons to come, unless you'd rather take a chance on a shady engine.

just my 2 cents tho

i've had nothing but luck with harbor freight 6.5 hp engines, true they will not deep water start a heavy rider but enter Affordable Go Karts out of Cali, they have kits that can strengthen these engines and upgrade them so they're putting out 9 hp, I'm ordering the parts now to build a custom winch for one of our best skaters, the nice benefit of 6.5 hp engines is weight

Hey Supermanotorious, cool name by the way, what kits are you talking about. I saw that harbor freight engine for 99 but what should I get to increase the horsepower. I'm about 160-165lbs but my little brother and my friends are all over 200 so I need the extra power.

price.dan, i hate to bust your bubble but it is all about gearing and spool inner. i've been behind a 13hp honda that couldnt deep water start a baby. i've also been behind a 6.5hp honda w/ hop up kit that could deep water about 210lbs and go well above 20mph. i'd say try the clone and if it craps out get a real engine.

mojo, haha, I know dude.... i'm running a 6:1 gearing ratio with 8' inch inside diameter. I'm guessing the difference must be those kits. Anyone got a link to em? or photos of them?

your best bet is to call AGK, tell them which engine you have and ask their opinion
