Do you ever look back at pictures or videos, whether it's of you, your friends, or favorite riders and just wish you could go back in time for a day?

i was looking for wakeskate posters/prints and preferably from what i call the "cassette" era of wakeskating, circa '01-'04ish. i think this time in wakeskating can/will be easily be considered to be one of the most significant in the sports short history.

from the 4-trac to the winch, 2002-2004 definitely has a special meaning to me, most likely because that's when i got hooked on wakeskating. ive been hooked ever since and am still stoked every time i get a chance to ride.

these are the pictures that inspired my post, and unfortunately at $100/each i wont be hanging them up in my room anytime soon. maybe one day letchworth and meddock would offer large posters at a reasonable price instead of just prints. until then i'll probably cave on the 4trac/reed one from the keys, which i believe was in sfumato.

post up some of your favorites!

great topic! I might try to post some imagery later. I kind of try not to bring this stuff up because I think, or imagine, people aren't too psyched on my brand of nostalgia. I've said this to a friend, but the bottom line is I feel totally lucky to have gotten into wakeskating when I did, just so I could have experienced what I did even though it was from the outside. it's tricky becuase it's really easy to make the past seem better than it was, but there was a lot of character in wakeskating at that time. maybe now it's more underground or something, I don't really know.

and I have that meddock print! and I think a lot of that imagery was used in snap and not sfumato. but still really good none the less--I love popping that disk in and watching all of the bonus footage of the riders.

I just found a binder of wakeskate stuff from 2003.
It had print outs of all the decks and mutiny site, pics of my first contest and all sorts of great stuff. I have also been watching a bunch of skate vids from that era and the progression has been awesome since the first video I saw of Drew McGuckin going huge in Monkey on a String to the most recent footage of Colin Gee killing it in Passion is Progression.

This is my 11th year wakeskating and I feel extremely greatful for every second I am riding.

Ollieshuvs, the first one you posted I had on my wall cut out of wakeboardingmag and the second one wasn't a purchasable print until i got in touch with Letchworth and requested it. At the time I thought I was paying for a 1 of 1. I was fairly bitter when i found that on his site, especially since i paid more then it was listed on there for. Anyways, its hanging on my wall at my lake house and gets me stoked every time i see it.

I started wakeskating in 03 or 04, whenever Sfumato was almost out. Such a good time in wakeskating

i have a bunch of stuff from 05'ish. It was the year that a bunch of us on here were riding the PWT. OLD SCHOOL..... I have some pictures and some heat draws and standings ect.... I'll look for them.

Does anyone else remember that? There were threads back then about how different people were doing (since none of us were on the sight to update). We were all pretty tight on this site IMO..... Those were fun days.

I remember more of what Pirate is talking about, but I was on the outside.

here are a few things I found on my computer. I scanned in a few cassette ads awhile back so here are a few of my favorites. I just think they were so on point with their brand image so I think the earliest ads are dope. but I really dig the vibe from the 04 line, so I've included that hampson ad. and obviously the 4-trac imagery is a big deal to me so there's a lot of that here too...I always loved that hansen's energy drink ad. in the last shot his back foot was kind of off of the board and I really dug that because it showed how he weighted his front foot.

and the dvs ad is kind of funny becuase that vest is photoshopped in. at the time WBM wouldn't put any shots in their mag if the rider didn't wear a vest. but again, i really like the imagery. it's that green board, the milans, the re-entry radness...fah-get about it!

Wow, this made me flashback to the golden years. It brings back so many great memories, when I wasn't working full-time and could hang out with my friends on the river and be able to ride 3-4 days a week. My family purchasing our first boat, the excitement of my dad giving me the 'ok' to put a monstertower on it...

I wish I could contribute more, but the computer I had most of my stuff saved on crashed a few years ago and I couldn't recover a lot of it. This is my favorite shot of me though (cropped kinda weird, I'll try to dig up the original), circa 2004-05 on my '03 Drew McGuckin Cassette; i/o shuv. This was one of the last summers the board saw before breaking. It's still in my garage, and I don't think I'll ever get rid of it.

I freaking love that shot of aaron behind that seadoo. that caused such a stir, both good and bad.

and if nothing else, there needs to be an art show displaying everything cassette. i thought of this because of some other brand in another industry and how they treat their artform and related activities. cassette needs that at some point...just board graphics, boards, ad imagery and photos from the time...

This one does it for me. I took it in Baytown in 2009 and it was the first time I ever used a DSLR and the first time I got to witness in person some of my favorite riders. Made some good friends and now I'm forever stoked to ride on a wakeskate. It's really rad sharing the water with people you see on videos then everyone kicks it like they've been friends forever.

all because of a big chunk of wood. either way it reminds of why I enjoy taking photos so much and gets me stoked to ride.

here are a few more classic images to keep the ball rolling. some of them go back before some people on here rode. whatever. cut-down wakeboard, flat deck stuff is good. Cool

and just to shake things up, I've added one of my favorite shots of grubb in here, which was taken by joey meddock and it's under his wakeskate section on his website. I'd like to buy this as a print at some point. I just think it's bad ass...grubb on a wooden wakeskate...that's definitely nostalgic for me.

SLWK, those boards are cut down wakeboards with graphics that were airbrushed on by chris mack. they're actually wake tech flight 135s--the beige one from 1997.

I might try to keep this going for two more nights. of course it's going to be a lot of cassette stuff, but such is life.
