I guess you haven't seen the newest family guy? The episodes called either the hand that rocks the wheelchair, or the hand that pushes the wheelchair.

I own the expensive line and it doesnt hold up any better to rough concrete, harbor freight line lasts about 18 months, 5 spools of it cost the same as one spool of better line, so then, does expensive line last 7 and one half years on a winch?

supermanotorious, just b/c you don't see anyone else winching doesn't mean you winch the most, it just means no one winches around you! Just remember... you get what you pay for. Don't expect your rope to last long if its only 20 bucks.

texasT, I'm with you. The first stage is denial. 2nd stage is not riding b/c he snapped his cheap rope.

Sagittorious, just buy the good stuff first, its cheaper in the long run.

my streightline has lasted about 2-3 years

supermanotorious, the only real difference is the after plain lag, when we winched, after the intial pull to start, that elastic delay in the pull due to the line is the only dis advantage to that line, not that it has anything to do with being able to ride, but the weight of the watersoaked stretchy line versus a non soaking, non stretch line makes the feel of the pull different
yes it all works, yes you can still ride , but you can feel the line picking up off the water
(not that much on yours ), but i think during my first build ans testing we were using a tube rope and a bunch of old line very simmilar and i think that was what pushed us to use something else, easier to get tension, easier to start with, esp if you winching a very short run to gap, you need instant tension that stays true

supermanotorious, since when is your winch rope ever in constant contact with concrete/rocks? Rolling Eyes its not, it may touch some concrete/rocks for literally a second but thats it. I don't consider harbour freight lines good by any margin, they're garage bro. IMO i don't even think amesteel lines are that good. Bulletlines winch rope is hands down the best. Im going on my 4th season with it and it still preforms just as good as the day I got it. I'm willing to bet that I will never have to buy another winch rope again. Does your winch line float? I bet not. Does yours have a protective coating over your rope? Nope. Not to mention your rope is 1/4... thats wayy too thick of a line, you need a huge spool (I'm guessing thats why you just made a new spool) or you can decrease your inside diameter of your spool but that's reducing your speed and power. Where as bulletlines are 1/8 and have a tensile strength of 2000 lbs compared to your 900 lbs... so yea your rope is going to break b/c of the amount of stress it receives. So in the end, you've bought the same rope numerous times and the expensive other rope and spent more than I have, without having a reliable rope Laughing Yeah thats definitely the way to go Rolling Eyes

And this is why forums suck sometimes, I ask for help I receive different opinions, then they go to arguing about it in my topic. Lol I can admit I've gone off the topic a few times but hey I started this so I can high jack my own post from time to time.

Update on Winch: Went out and did some work today didn't get too much done kept on having saw blades break and had the grinder blade shatter. Also found two broken welds cause my friend decided to go test them with a hammer gonna have to fix those as well. haha kinda glad he did cause that woulda sucked if we had be using it or going down the road and the welds failed. Probably heading out and doing more work tomorrow.

Sagittorious, wouldn't you rather know the facts and make your own judgement? or would you rather prefer to me mislead into buying something you didn't want?

price.dan, come to phoenix, you'll find most urban ponds are lined with ROUGH concrete that extends 2 feet out of the water line, to walk the shore line the rope rubs against trees and rocks, my spools are no bigger than anyone elses, why the new spool? I'm shipping 2 new winches to Austrailia, yes the line floats, I dont care who wants to spend the money on expensive line, sure its nice but it's not necessary, for the wakeskater on a budget, theres nothing wrong with what I use, and yes Sagittorious, price.dan is right, this debate (not argument) will help you make a decision

Update: Went out finished fixing the frame where I had screwed up, went ahead and put the TAV on the engine it didn't fit on the 11hp so I went ahead and put it on the 6.5 I had originally ordered the TAV for (wishful thinking on that would fit the 11hp) went together smooth till the last bolt as soon as I put any force on the torq wrench (wich I had set to the specificied 14lbs.) the damn bolt snapped in the shaft! So now next time I go to do any work I get to waste time trying to the half of a bolt out of the shaft. I was really wanting to get it mounted today! Crying or Very sad

I've had that problem too, I usually upgrade the bolts to Grade 8 or the metric equivalent

I swear they give you faulty bolts and that way when the bolt snaps during operation and your TAV pretty much explodes off the drive shaft they don't have to replace because it was a bolt and not the actuall TAV that malfunctioned.
