I'm scared to death of a kickflip. The thing is I have never skateboarded in my life, so I have no idea on how to even do one. I think learning how to do one will really increase my riding. It's like a mental block that I can't get around.
How did you guys get over your mental blocks? |

CABLERIDER,
The last time I thought that I almost blew up.. Long story short -- The ignitor on the propane grill wouldnt work so I had to light it by hand. |

CABLERIDER, that doesnt help me, i start thinking about scarecrowing it (your legs are spread adn the edge of the board comes and hits you in the nuts. i hear if it s cold enough in the water and you have enough shrinkage, the nyou get scarecrowed, you loose your balls all toether! _________________ ride a lunch tray

<~~~knocking on wood!
I have never gotten the board between the legs, well i take that back and i got my legs closed up and caught the board between my shins and just gave myself a gnarly grip burn once... I had alot of fears myself when i first wanted to start working them.
Really you just have to make yourself go out there and do it, after i tried a few i was like ok this is not as hard as i thought and the fears kinda go away and you will just focus on the trick. It will happen you just have to make yourself try a few. once you know how it feels you will think your fears were stupid and laugh about it.
I will say this if you have weak shins, i would reccomend a shin guard or if you wear a knee brace pull it down to cover your shin. I jacked the shizzle out of my shins when i was first learning kickflips.
Other than that just make sure you have a solid ollie _________________ arson-wake.com |

You should start skating it would only help your wakeskating. Not to mention it is alot easier to practice tricks on a skateboard than in the water, turnin around and gettin up over and over is a pain and frustrating. _________________ Chris

Yeah vance, just go for it. What most likely is going to happen is it won't flip and you'll fall ...no pain. You get up and try again or just skate around.
Or think about you landing the kickflip, think about how stoked you'd be. You can't do it unless you try, and how are you going to get better? _________________ :colorless: -> http://falic.parsethis.net <- |

hahaha vance, that's funny. I have a fire story. Up at our cabin we have this large wood burning stove in the basement. At the time, I was unaware of the fact that you have to open the door slowly so you can let the oxygen slowly creep in, rather than letting it rush in. Anyway, I just opened it wide and there was this GIANT flame/fireball jobby that reached the ceiling and singed (sp) my bangs. I was stunned for a minute...now I can laugh...
I've never tried to KF a wakeskate. But from standard skating experience, whenever you try a new trick commit to it 100%. And the most tricky part about riding, whether it be a snowboard or a wakeskate or whatever, is learning how to trust yourself in order to bring your riding to that next level. Sometimes you can seriously surprise yourself. And after seeing your vids on here, I don't doubt that you're ready for a KF. Anyway, that's my advice (albeit, quite general advice, but I had to bring it back on topic:) _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |
