its definitely personal preference. i never really understood it b/c you do a trick, and then the board rides different for the next trick. that's why it's preference. i like finless, but it depends on the board. if there's 0 channel i like a fin, but if there is anything at all i go finless.

I think part of it is (or was) having a certain amount of forgiveness for tricks, be it switch stuff, or let's say you're boardsliding and you've got that finless end over the rail. In my mind, it's going to be easier to bigspin off (or whatever) and not have it hang up on the rail.

j.k.

OP, its all persona pref like mentioned above, i started riding with 2 fins, to learn to pop my stuff then tried without fins and loved it even more, but coming from a strapping background it helped get myself acquainted with the bindingless ride. Do whatever you feel most comfortable with. The whole one fin deal i think helps with certain tricks, i know on kickflips it may be easier to have a lil more stability in the rear when landing especially when your learning ect. Try it! If you dont like it get the screwdriver and take that bad boy off, thats the only way to figure it out.

i use 1 fin when i ride rails..........front bigs with 2 fins on rails = Evil or Very Mad

i think the cassette posse started the 1 fin trend........being assymetrically shaped decks, it seemed to make sense to have a fin in the back.......back to airplanes again Rolling Eyes the fin is in the back Wink

when i was first learning kickys i used a fin at the back which did create more stability but it got really annoying to generally ride with as each trick feels different

khowe22, while I immensely respect electricsnow's opinion I completely disagree.

The reason to skate with only one fin is a matter of personal safety. You keep the other fin in your pocket as a secret shank or ninja throwing star.
