I dislocated my knee yesterday, wakeskating. The audio at the end of the video is a little disturbing. When I got to the shore my knee popped back into place but it's 3 to 4 times the size of the other knee today.

Here is the video.

Did you have knee surgery to fix your knee?

Just curious what I'm in for.

I did this the winter before last. Basically I did the exact thing grinding down a ledge on my skateboard. My back foot slipped off and next thing I knew my knee had bent inwards to touch the ground. I had xrays done and went to a sports doctor that was recommended to me from a roller derby girl. They said that I should just take it easy. It killed me not to wakeskate or skateboard and kept re-injuring myself. I ended up having to give it all up for about 3 months. One thing that helped a ton was riding my bike around the neighborhood. I helped build up the muscles around my knee.

I would say go see a doctor that specializes in sports injuries. I first went to a regular doctor and they were retarded. When I went to the specialists they knew exactly was wrong by just barely moving my leg.

Good luck dude and hope you get better soon.

The first time it slid out my friends dad had to push it back in. My mom took me to CVS to get a sleeve for it and we asked the quick doctor lady there if it was serious. she did not know so i just got a sleeve and took it easy for a couple days and then it was fine. now when it slides out it hurts a couple seconds then it tingles for a couple minutes then it back in action. My knees are really weak so they slid pretty easy.

good luck man!

i don't know if it applies to knee dislocations, but i dislocated my shoulder years ago and did nothing about it b/c i got it back in and the tendons grew back wrong or something and they don't hold it in the socket well anymore. for my shoulder it's called a hill-sachs injury i believe. if you have health insurance go get it looked at by an orthopedist. it'll definitely be beneficial/

I went to meet with the surgeon who do did fixed my other knee. He said it looks (rather it feels) like I tore my ACL, MCL and Meniscus. I had an MRI done yesterday and I meet with the surgeon again on Tuesday to go over the results. I will keep you guys informed on what's going on, but seriously enjoy riding because I'm pretty bummed out with no wakeskate under my feet. At least I can still go watch my son ride at the cable. It's better than nothing.

it sucks man be ready to just be sitting around doing nothing for a while. i start physical therapy in june and hopefully i can be back riding in july or august. i hope you can make it through without surgery but with that much damage i'd say it's inevitable. i finally got my knee brace and it's helped alot and i'm back to walking now.

keep us informed. and by the way, we met on a carnival cruise ship in 2008 i was wearing a wakeskating.com tee and we talked about wakeskating at odub...your show was awesome i hope you guys still do that! Smash

my roommate has 13 pins in his ankle and a plate or two and his dumb ass has never gone to therapy. that's probably why he went from 6 or 7 screws from the 1st injury to the total of 13 now. surgery w/o therapy is pointless. hope you're doing well.

Well, I just met with the surgeon to go over my MRI. He said, I have a torn Meniscus, a destroyed ACL, and a torn MCL and a pretty severe bone bruise. I go into surgery on Monday and I'll be out for a long, long time.

P.S. Great to hear from you again, I hope you are doing well and that you get out on the water soon. I will be watching for a while.

Cheers,
Juggler

Hey dude,

I did what you did, last year in August, only I fell off the top of a rooftop rail and I had to grab my leg and put it back in place. I blew out every ligament in my knee (but luckily no meniscus damage). Just get into surgery as quick as possible and get on the rehab as much as possible. I was bike riding a lot and am still at the gym 3-5 times a week. But yeah after surgery, I was back to riding in just under 6 months, if you do it right, it's a lot quicker back than you think.

Still sucks though.

Hope this helps
