just start it out like a fs 180 then flick you back foot and don't let your body turn

it all about where you put your feet i used to do what you did

put your front foot towards youre toe edge

put you back foot towards youre heel edge

kick off with your back foot really hard try to land on your toe edge because everytime i land on my heel edge i slide out

What frye said

i did it in the flats and i popped like a ollie but the shear force of pressing down and the water pushing back up keeps the board from catching and getting away from you

i dont know if this will teach a bad habit or not, but try taking the fins off and just sliding it around without trying to ollie really high. i dont know if you have access to one but the first shuvits i ever did behind a boat were on a skimboard before i owned a skate.

Where is it easiest to practice shuv-its? I've been trying them on the cut out into the flats because the water is harder (you're moving quicker) and so the landing is presumably easier. But my friend landed his first one (on his first day out) just outside the wake. Any thoughts?

Also, fs or bs? Personal preference? I do them fs on my skateboard, but most I've seen done on the water have been bs (i.e. kicking backwards with the rear foot).

i have the same problem and i tried to position both my feet further back on the board and this really helped me get it to spin but keep my body straight and let the board spin in front of me
