when i first started doing them i found it helpful to cut out about 10 feet, flatten off for like 2 second, bend my chest over a little bit to keep my weight over the center of the board and give it a quick scoop. i liked to hang my toes over the edge a little bit, i think it helped. good luck, it's so sweet riding away for the first time after the board has left your feet _________________

cut out 5ish feet, keep your handle close to your body, flatten off, count to 3, scoop it with your back foot, keep your feet wide the whole time, catch it with your feet wide. |

dont flick it to hard that just makes board go flying. it should only need a quick with the back foot to get around. make sure u look at the board and then just stomp it when it gets around _________________

the more you try them you will get more comfortable initiating the trick. i usually bring my front foot a little closer to the heel edge of the board than my riding around position and visualize myself landing the trick and riding away. then i cut out, flatten off and look kind of near the inside of my front foot, and wait til it feels right, usually a few seconds, and pop it, and slightly push with my back foot and watch the board rotate. it's like golf, keep your eye on the ball. and for me if i don't visualize myself sticking the trick i either don't or it's sloppy. _________________ "I said take me to the sea, cause that is where I want to be. if it's only doing 90 degrees it might be sticking to your front foot...i reckon this happens when your front foot is too far forward, try moving it back a bit |

watch aquafrolics they have enuff over the head shots to give you an idea of body and feet position as well as the mechanics of the actually trick....
that being said, the best advice i ever got on shuvs is to fall forward, don't let the board slip out behind you, it forces you to put weight on your toes which makes it more consistent.... hope that helps |

also trying it i/o may help give the board that extra spin. the first time i tried to i/o shuv i spun it to hard and almost hit 3shuv for first time so it may help u get it around _________________

haha dont worry im slow too. but thats a really common problem u just have to stay over the board and bend your knees when u land. when i was learning them someone on here gave me the advice of bending my knees to try and like suck the board in kind of instead of just throwing it then stomping the board and it helped me not slip out. _________________

Do exactly what mitch said, but if your still having problems try throwing your deck on some carpet or a dock, maybe set up a handle to simulate really riding. Practice there, just do 100's all day long till you are stomping them feet spread with ease. Then when u go out youll have it down! This is how i learned 3 shuv back during one of the hurricanes a few years back, we had no power so i couldnt drop the boat in the water... for 3 weeks... so i just sat in my buddys room on his old hyperlite with foam doing 3 shuvs all day long haha. Good luck! |

I have been trying to land some shuvs for two weeks now, I always land with my feet to close together. I keep reading that foot placement is everything. I can't seem to ollie high enough when my back foot is close to the front edge of the board and my front at the other edge. Do you just practice ollies like that for a while? |
