Just going through lists of Tricks for wakeboarding, wakeskates and kitesurfing comparing them and seeing what can or can't be done on each board.

Stance & positions are getting a little confusing. Confused

Is Front/backside approach different depending on which side of the wake you start ?

Normal Stance = Left foot forward

On Left hand side of the wake.
Left foot forward, facing the boat = Frontside
Right foot forward facing away from the boat = Revert = Fakie = Backside

On Right hand side of the wake.
Left foot forward, facing away from the boat = Revert = Fakie = Backside
Right foot forward facing the boat = Frontside

Frontside = you are facing something
Backside = you have your back to something

From Left hand side of the wake
FS Air 180 (you land Backside or Fakie - turning anti-clockwise) ?
BS Air 180 (From Fakie you land Normal Stance - turning clockwise) ?

Right hand side of the wake - moves are opposite to above
unless going Blindside when they are reversed ?

Confused ? I am.... Laughing

Anyone explain any better if I have it wrong so that I can have a better understanding for what trick can be done in which direction. Very Happy

I didn't read dave's article, but frontside and backside will be referred to in a few instances--a direction one spins and the direction from which one may approach an obstacle or similarly, the wake.

Frontside and backside for the wake (commonly referred to as toeside and heelside) are pretty self explanitory. When you approach the wake with your toes facing the wake, that's toeside (frontside). Heelside is when you approach the wake with your heels and back "towards" the wake (backside.

This is also used for obstacles. Frontside= the front of your body is facing the rail and backside=your back is leading you into the rail.

It's quite similar for spins as well, but just because you're approaching the wake "backside" or heelside doesn't mean you're spinning backside. A backside spin will be one in which your back will lead the spin. If you're regular (and not riding switch), a backside spin will have you rotating clockwise. A frontside spin will be performed with the front of your chest leading the rotation (again, if you're riding regular, you'll be spinning counter clockwise).

That's probably a lot to take in.

Is that not Blindside ?

Frontside Spin - The board tip will spin in the direction that is the shortest amount of distance between the tip of the board and the pull of the line.
or where the riders chest faces the boat first within the first 90º of the spin.

Backside Spin - The board tip has to spin in the opposite direction of natural rotation or where the riders back faces the boat first within the first 90º of the spin.

wakeboarding/skating makes it easier for me to understand. FS 180s is when u never have to take your eyes of the boat/pwc. BS you either hafta wrap or land blind or handle pass on a 180.. So think about this. Do a 180 one way on the the ground with a handle tied to a pole/tree, if you dont have to pass the handle then its FS if you do its BS and vice versa.
Correct me if im wrong but im pretty sure thats right.
