che blanc, you need to find some new friends. Laughing Wakeskating is sick...

hopefully your friend is just teasin you like all good friends do.

It's just like every other sport. When we surf, we make fun of boogie boarders. When we snowboard, we make fun of skiiers. When we skateboard, we make fun of roller bladers. When we mountain bike, we make fun of road bike people who wear spandex.

I still wakeboard and wakesurf. I like to do them all. I just started wakesurfing, wakeboarding, and wakeskating really just this year... so i'm still having a ton of fun learning all this stuff.

whats weird is that i used to only wakeboard. then my bro got a catalyst. then we would take a run on the catalyst at the end of the day when we were tired of wakeboarding. when i rode Russian's cassette concave awhile back for the first time i decided right then and there that i wanted to wakeskate more. so from that day i pretty much only skated. i would take a run on my board here and there, but i never had as much fun with it as i did skating. so today on the delta i take a run on my board for shts and giggles and end up having a really good ride. i took a nice long set, and the water got crappy enough for me to want to stick with the board more than struggle keeping the skate under me.

although when i was houseboatin the weekend of the reno pwt, i went out on a sante w/ an assload of weight. i could either bring a board or a skate, and i chose the skate. boy did i kick my ass trying w2w haha. it was fun though. both for me AND the everyone on the boat watching me die.

That's why you need your own boat.On my boat we harrass wakeboarders.I use to be the only one for miles around who skated but I've converted quite a few now...
We still go for a couple wakeboard pulls a day but it's like 90% skating 10% wakeboarding.

Just call 'em "Strappers" and ride.

It doesnt really matter what you're riding, as long as you enjoy what your doing. Thats what its all about anyway, having fun.

I haven't wakeboarded in almost a year. What's really cool is that 90% of the time we only have wakeskates on the boat now, most of my friends would rather skate most of the time. I don't even bring the "boat" board anymore

I broke my knee cap last year so that was the end of my wakeboarding. The only time I breakout a wakeboard is to hit a slidder that I can not get dialed in on a skate.

I have been wakeboarding for a couple years and spent alot of time and money on it. But, I seem to have more fun wakeskating and I am progressing alot faster on the skate than I did the board. I'm not sure how my dad will take it when I stop bringing my board out. I'm caught in the wake of two great sports, and well I don't think I will be boarding much longer.

HighRida, i dont know how my dads gonna take it either when we go to o-dub and i leave my wakeboard and just bring the k39. i dunno

I had no idea that Nick used to wakeboard. This reminds me of an issue of Wakeboarding Magazine many years back. Danny Hampson's mom sent in a letter and some pics of him jumping homemade ramps on a wakeboard. I didn't think anything of it; then a few years later he's dropping bombs in Sfumato.

Seems like a lifetime ago when "che blanc" was posting pics of kickflipping a K39. Bizarre. Easily one of my favorite riders of all time. Anyone know if he'll be at Cablestock this weekend? Never seen Nick ride in person.

Why do these threads popping up every week just to make me cringe at my 14-year-old self? Crying or Very sad (Spoiler alert: I stopped wakeboarding that year, after dabbling with it & skurfing for a couple of middle school summers)

I'm gonna let everyone get their laughs in at my atrocious grammar & my adolescent frustrations with Stu Shinn for not embracing wakeskating as fast as I did, but then I'm going to send it back down into the archives were it belongs.

SCBrips, I won't be making it to Cablestock this time around, but hopefully I can make it over that way sometime this year. It'd be sick to ride with a ws.com legend like yourself Afro

Anybody else notice the separation of the sports these days? I feel like this type of thing never happens anymore. Maybe its because I live in FL but it seems like wakers stick with wakers and skater chill with skaters. Besides the cable, I almost never see the two riding behind the same vessel or collaborating in anyway. I'm sure it has a lot to do with the progression of both sports in very different directions, specifically winching, team videos, wesubsist, WSM, and the wakeskate tour. Not to mention that most wakeskaters don't want to ride behind a sacked out G23, and theres not much a wakeboarder can do with a simple flat bar or incline rail less than 60ft long. All that aside, I like to believe that we all made a conscious decision to separate ourselves from wakeboarding, because when it comes down to it the only thing we really have in common anymore is we all need a tug, on some butter.

I'm not trying to be negative towards wakeboarding here either, but I share 14 year old Nick's sentiment of "wakeboarding is tite but i just don't get off on it." Shredtown"s Jamboree looked cool though.

That is the funniest quote ever. In fact, it's tite. (my favorite part)

The one thing I'll say is I love watching wakeskating videos with dudes ollieing on the highest boxes and rails that wakeboarders will hop on to, or maybe even ride on. I don't know how to better articulate that thought...I just think wakeskating looks way better, and dudes are doing it right.

I think the decision was pretty conscious...my hating comes from the fact that the wakers who probably "wakeskated" probably now wake surf instead because it's easier. It's presumptious, I know.
