so as i'm sure you are all aware of the deemed nick taylor rail with the pipes and flanges used to support the flat rail. well instead of buying flanges to fit 1" or 1 1/2" diameter pipes, buy flanges to fit a 1" or 1/2" diameter pipe and they have what they call couplings, which are threaded at each end, that you can buy in either 8, 10, or 12 inches that fit that flange. Pound the larger metal pipes into the lakebed then take the rail with the flanges and couplings already attached and slide it into the larger metal pipes. it works great on my rail back home, saves a lot of time attempting to pound the whole thing in

i built one with 1.5" poles and flanges and just hammered the poles in and then screwed the flange on, and set the rail on top. itonly takes 3 screws per flange but i like your idea. i need to go find a nice winch spot to build one of these

DMagg, devin and i tried attaching plywood to the top once, it didn't work because it slid around too much and this is much heavier

kornhouse, tie ropes to those lil chode metal poles and tie those ropes to the top of the car. problem solved

Cyclone268, i thought about that and that's how i tied it into the bed of the truck but the truck has an 8foot bed and plus tailgate and the tahoe's top rack is curved and doesn't have the attachment places like the cleats in a truck

kornhouse, very nice it looks exactly like what i have set up

also since i shred the white stuff, that design works great because you can get flanges for the bottom of the couplings, and use a piece of flat metal, drill holes in it to fit the flange holes, bolt it, spin it on
now you got legs for the rail to set up for shredding

ILwake12, i used to have right angle supports that slid onto the 4' poles and screwed into it and you didnt even have to pound it in plus it supported an incline up
