grip tape on wakeskates is a direct rip off a skateboard. no innovation there at all. grip tape has always been soley made for skateboards. it just so happens that it can be applied to other boards aswell.

Actually, griptape was made for other applications, like steps, ledges, and so forth,as required by OSHA, it just happen to be used as an application for skateboards. So did skateboard manuf. ripp off the idea, no they just used the griptape in another form, you follow? As for this bi-lev, you have got to use some imagination, yeah, 1/8'' is not much, but remember that is only in the center, no telling what is going on in the nose/ tail area. Also, the bi-lev maybe has some ideas taken from a snow beck, maybe not, but I bet that this application works entirely different on water than that of snow/ice, this starting to make sense? hard ground, soft water......I bet general physics/geometry plays a huge part in this design, and the board not only acts as a board, but as two decks that work together to create pop/lift.

It's just hard for me to imagine it not being overly clunky and cumbersome. Does it just seem so... complicated?

I agree with indefinite 110%. People can try to downplay all of these ideas as much as they want. But if using griptape is such a rip-off and it's so obvious, why did it take so long? Does anyone remember traction pads? Astrodeck? The soft foam hyperlite used on their wakeskates for the first three years? Surf wax? I know thomas was one of the first guys to actually start riding with shoes. So call it obvious, but it takes one person to get the ball rolling.

Also, the only aspect the bi-level seems to have in common with a snowskate is that there are two pieces to the device. The gap sounds much smaller on the bi-level than on a snowskate, and a snowskate doesn't ollie against itself (so to speak) for snap. Like I said before, they may have gotten the idea from a snowskate (I don't know for sure because I never asked...I don't know that they even care about snowskating), but a wakeskate can't be an exact replication of a snowskate because it would never work. And that to me is the trimuph: actually getting your ideas to work effectively in a different medium. It's about making your ideas a reality and they're doing that.

So, hate all you want, I guess...but I might still love you...

It is good to see that people do have an imagination, and are always willing to change, Volcom says it best, "the only constant is change", this is exactly what is going to happen to wakeskating, evolution, is what it also could be called. I know first hand that this bi-lev is going to change the way wakeskating, and wakeskates are looked apon.
As far as the actual board, who knows what it is going to looklike, but if you think about it, there is no way that it will look like a snowskate, the bottom of a snowskate is half the size (width-wize) and we all know what that will do to a lip trick if that was on a wakeskate..

that pic makes a lot more sense in my head now now that i know that i know the gaps are bigger on the kicks. one thing i see is that the board could be more prone to catching nose dives.

i dont think it will because it is a flat deck on bottom and that will ride like that it just has the bigger tail and nose

Wait, wait... yeah, just crapped my pants.

That makes sense to me now. It's only the nose and tail that are raised, I was thinking that it would be raised to sort of simulate skateboard trucks.
One question though, what about fin access?

I ran into Thomas on the weekend at Wakestock and asked him a few questions about the new decks. From what he told me, I can't wait to try it for myself. It'll be shipping sooner than you think...

Thomas, if you read this, thanks for giving me the time to ask a few questions and I hope you and your bros had a good time and will be back in Canada next year...keep innovating and we'll keep skating...peace
