What did you use to sand down the concave?

Sandpaper maybe?

Yeah, but then it's just like veneer, which probably wouldn't work too well...

ZoSo, um thanks dude, i was asking whether he did it by hand or used some sort of power sander... Neutral

And it must work because all decks out today use something thinner... i.e. 9 ply cassette flat isn't 1 1/8" thick... I wondering what they use and where I can get some

so thanks for being useless...

Jeff206, no, those thin little plys wouldnt work, assuming you dont have large manufacturing equipment. the plys would be like paper thin and just evil to work with. when i sand things down i use a file and then hand sand everything, like the rails. for concave i would deffinately use a power sander. sanding out concave by hand would be like whacking off for six hours.

well i whack off like 6 hours a day anyway... Laughing just kidding

so some sort of belt sander would probably work ok I'm thinking as long as there wasn't too much inward curvature, if that makes sense

thanks for the advise

i think when you laminate them together on the 'mold' they hold their shape

I just finished my wakeskate last week in wood class and i was drilling fin holes today. I made a concave with 3 layers of 1/8 inch with 3 more that i glued on after that where cut out to give it the concave and footbeds/kicktails. When i sanded the concave i used a compressed air disk sander like one you would use on a car for doing body work. The disk was old so the sanding wasn't to agressive and it worked absolutly perfect. To get the board to keep its rocker you need to laminate it in a press/jig/mould that you have to make first and it takes a hell of alot of clamps to get a good sturdy job( no fuking de-lam). I used a 2 part marine grade epoxy which is good to coat the entire board in when its doneto seal it. I'll post some pics as soon as i can.

JB

p.s. Ask every question you can think of and anyone who made a board knows of way to improve their next.

Its not that hard if you have the right tools. I think if i can get the hardware i'm going to make a bi-level next year.
