Pconn5, I made a wakeskate out of 4 1/8" baltic birch plywood and 4 more plys for the kicktails and 3 more for the concave. I also made the same mistake as you and put WAY to much rocker on it.
I'm also making some more wakeskates now but with a mold with a three-stage rocker of 1.5".

Ok sounds good then. I will probably go with the 4 plys of 1/8" birch and just mold up the concave as necessary.

One last question I have is has anyone done the 45 router on the sides of the board?? How would you do this. I have used a router before but was wondering if this is the better way to do it or not. Would you just cut out the wakeskate shape and make the side flat with the concave then router around the whole outside?

Would it be possible to just use a bunch of weight on top of the press instead of a bunch of clamps? I don't have any large clamps in my garage and was trying to think of a cheaper way of clamping down the press.

You will need a BUNCH of weight if you are going that route. These presses produce TONS of clamping pressure.

Ok, I guess I will just try and get some clamps then which should be fine. Last question I have is that I just drew up a rocker shape that is for a 40" wakeskate, with a 15" flat spot, 1.5" high at the ends and a 6'3" radius curve up to the ends. It seems like the rocker is too small but I read this is around where you want it. Would I be better off with like 2" of rocker or something or should I be good? My last wakeskate had 3" and this was way too big.

Ok, just wanted to say thanks to the people that answered my questions, and thanks for the guide.

I put up some pictures of what I have gotten so far. I still need to put the coats of urethane on it and grip the top. Where is the best place to get grip tape that is large enough? The last board I made I used skateboard grip but it wasn't long enough.

this is the homemade skate. the concave is a little steep and the flatspot is small. but it rides nice. and its not extremely heavy.

Gnarly Dancer 42, it really hard. You just need to go to the stores and look. The online stores dont really have a good selections.

make your own grip tape graphic, thats why its a custom board. all you need is some grip tape and a razor blade...and job done.
