so tonight i started construction on my own NT rail. got everything, then i started attaching the trex to the wood. someone on here told me to drill straight down through the trex into the wood and it would be flush and slide fine.

here's the problem, it's not flush at all. if i slide this it probably won't stop me but it will shred my deck to pieces. what should i do? i've tried tightening them up, i was thinking about using a sander to sand them down but it probably won't work, do i just have to buy new wood and drill from the underside?

i need help because we need this rail tomorrow.

use a drill bit that's larger than the wood screw head, and drill halfway through the trexx, then put the screw in.

thanks to everyones help. with a little patience we were able to back out almost all the screws, a few we had to knock the heads off. we ended up just buying a drill bit drilling down and countersinking them like that using the old holes as sort of guide holes.

first day we threw it in, TWRA pulls up, and i thought to myself this isn't acceptable getting our rail removed the first day it's in the water. but the dude was cool and said as long as we take it out everynight he doesn't care, because he "didn't want to pull another dead fisherman out who had hit it at full speed during the night." his exact words!

it's a fun ass rail! Smash

i used 6 foot poles, i honestly can't remember what diameter, i'd have to check the flanges next time i'm out.

it's 12 foot, kinda short but all we could do this year.

When i made mine, the screws went pretty far into the trex, like a quarter inch below the surface of it. Try using a drill to tighten it more and press it into the trex.

T-Hawk, that's what we did but we couldn't get it to tighten up and be flush with it.

by the way, RIP rail, first session we went out this year it was still up under some brush where we hid it for the winter on an island. went out last weekend and someone stole it.... Rolling Eyes
