|
|
My Internet Explorer start page was hijacked and I cannot fix the problem. Changing the start page address in the IE settings doesn't work.
I have Norton 2004, Ad-Aware 6.0, Spybot 1.3, ZoneAlarm firewall and StartPageGuard (all are up-to-date). The problem occured yesterday, like 1 hour after installing Spybot! Is that pure concidence?
"My" new start page is called "Search for..." (not company related). It loads even when I'm off-line (ADSL modem off). And when I'm on-line I also see a pop-up (picture below) telling me that my computer is infected by a spyware and that I have to "click here" to repair it. But I don't trust that shizzle.
It's driving me nuts.
Any suggestions would be more than welcome. Thanks.

It seems that the page is stored locally on your hard drive so look around for the file. If that does not work try downloading Firefox from mozilla.org. It is an alternative to IE and allows to block pop-ups and a lot more than E will let you do.

Because it happened to one of the guys in our office and he got busted. Luckily it was only on his computer and did not spread through out the network.

Fluid, thanks Man, you are right, it's stored locally on my hard drive, but that's only the beginning of the problem...
The Pavement 3.6, I've found out that it's a relatively new virus called "about:blank" homepage hijacker. None of the anti virus- spy- or ad- softwares can remove it yet. I'm still struggling against that fiznackling demon.
Ad-Aware 6, Spybot 1.3, StartPageGuard, Norton AV, TrojanHunter, A2 StartCenter, etc. will not help you.
If you're an expert, check this link for a manual step-by-step removal. But be carefull:
http://www.securiteam.com/securityreviews/5RP0L0UD5U.html
As Fluid said, the ONLY thing you can do at this time is to download and use "Mozilla Firefox" or "Opera" (both are free web browsers and are faster and safer than MS-IExplorer).
BTW: do you also have the "DSO Exploit" spyware on your PC? Spybot 1.3 finds it but is not able to remove it. If so, a "DSO Exploit" search in Google will help you. I spent like 4 hours to remove it, it's sooooooo tricky. I'm done...
Anyway, good luck, and I will let you know.

Oh, and by the way:
Grouch, everybody knows that porn is what your life is all about.
But the question is: old school porn, new school porn or freestyle porn? If you don't have that virus on your PC, you are probably a retarded oldschooler...

i didnt know there was this place so when i read it i decided to show you my problem to. that little whenever a popup comes up (ad, or one that i actually WANT to come up) it does the runtime error crap.if i really want to get to a page, like a flash one that pops up, i have to try like twenty times and then in one of those times i dont get the runtime error. and when the popup happens with runtime error, i cant click anywhere else but the "ok" button and then it closes all my browsers.

The Pavement 3.6, what do you mean by "reset my system"?
Run the MS-Windows XP restore & recover CD-Rom?

seven11dmd,
You can go to the start menu and click on Help & Support.
From there click on "undo changes on your computer with system restore"
Choose a restore date to before the virus popped first and it should work.
In addition...Stop looking at Porn. Jesus knows everytime you beat off or have a unpure thought.
