|
|
With the new season approaching quickly for me, I'm wondering how it would be to try wakesurfing. I've got a nice wakeboard boat, so I think the wake should be adequate. Of course i'm going to keep wakeskating, but for times when it's choppy this seems like a great way to pass the time.
I've heard things about using skimboards (among other things) to wakesurf with. As many of you know, Phase 5 wakesurfers are made by Zap skimboards. I've heard they're very simliar.
What do you guys think of just buying a skimboard and adding a fin and using it to wakesurf with? There's no way I can afford a real wakesurf board (college next year). I've seen skimboards for wayyyy cheap, though they're probably garbage. I'm particularly looking at this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-48-FIBERGLASS-SKIMBOARD-SKIM-BOARD-SURF_W0QQitemZ160243502345QQihZ006QQcategoryZ155141QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Yea, it probably is crap but I figure a.) i'm not using it for it's intended purpose anyways and b.) I'm goin to be drilling holes and such through it for fins, so no sense spending very much money on it.
So...do you think it would work? a 60$ wakesurfboard sounds good too me. I think my main concern is that it's too short at only 48". |

How long is it? I'm not sure if 48" is enough. The one I really liked is even shorter at 44", but I think that's wayyyy too short. |

bahne, i ride a 44 coex, you could prob find one on ebay for 150. i bought it for 200 a year or two ago.
but a 48 skimboard is perfect. skimboards are not as bouyant as wakesurfs, so the longer the the skim the easier it will be to ride and stay riding.
oh there is no need for you to put fins in the skim. you will probably like wakesurfing better without fins anyways. its easier to do surface spins, shuvs etc _________________ TEAM FUN!!!!!!

This is a 4' (48") board.
Maybe i'm wrong...I just thought the coex's were 4 FOOT 4inches
Thanks...I'm trying to decide what to do now |

Boat is a Tige 22i (yea, direct drive : /). No ballast, but probably like 1000lbs worth of people, lol. |

that board might be a little too small for you. is it gonna be your first time wakesurfing? if it is that board might not do the trick you should probably go no less than about 52 inches _________________ TEAM FUN!!!!!!

if you get that 48 you will be pumping pretty hard nonstop (that sounds wrong ) but if you get a bigger board your wakesurf sessions will be alot more chill and it will be way more easier to ride, trying to ride that 48 will give you a really really good work out, it doesnt matter if your wake is 4 feet tall wakesurfing gets me more tired than anything. and i never ever get tired, just ask anyone who pulls me.
so i would def go bigger than a 48
this is a really good board for just chillen

Thanks Ejazzle.
I'm looking for a longer skimboard right now. Not having much luck...they seem to come in smaller sizes. |

man you guys are lucky. I only get to go to the lake like 4 times a year...it's whack. It costs 200$ in gas to get to the lake and back.
another reason I don't want to spend alot on this...: ( |

I started "wakeskating" on a skimboard while i was building my own and i still whip it out occasionally. i usually ride behind jetskis so wake surfing is pretty tough but ive been able to ride it for a few seconds on my multiple attempts lol i would go no fin cuz you ll have to dick around trying to seal it so the foam core doesnt get ruined and i think it ll be alot more work than its worth. when im riding on mine it has a shizzle load of hold and it doesnt ever get sketchy on me but try it and if you want more toss on a fin |
