I've decided to to upgrade the motor on my winch since I've blown the compression on 2 of the Honda Knockoffs so far. I'm looking at either:
-Honda GX200 (6.5hp)
Briggs and Stratton Intek 8 hp
Subaru Robin 7 hp
I want a good reliable engine that wont crap out on me for a long time.
Also if you have the 7 or 8 hp engines what gear ratio are you running? I have a TAV2 and 60 tooth on there now but I could see a lot of power being wasted since I almost never will need to ride over 25 mph.
Please help and leave an opinion.
BTW it looks like they're all going to cost between $400-$500 with the GX,200 at the higher end of the scale.
Thanks for the help. |

12 - 74. faster than you would want to go. as far as an exact mph it depends on the weight of the rider. _________________ Pulldozer Winch Systems

The Subaru is pretty much just a high end Honda knock-off. I mean look at the metal gas tank and position. The carb, fuel petcock and air filter setup. Muffler, throttle, kill switch.
It's definitely the best version of a Honda knock-off, but as with every copy, the original is always better.
And you can find an Intek for pretty cheap on eBay.

ive ridden behind the briggs and the honda. i prefered the pull of the briggs. it had plenty of power and was pretty smooth. i got to ride behind the 8hp pulldozer on thursday and was really impressed. |

wakemitch, do you think it adds alot more weight to the winch tho?
For the people that have used the Subaru and the Honda, is there a very noticeable different with the extra .5 hp. |

i have used hondas, honda knock offs, briggs, and suburus and i by far like the suburu pull... it takes no effort to crank it up... it can really take a beating... and the pull is so much smoother than anyother engine i have used... the suburu is the one and only thing the grinch did right imo... _________________ PAVT since '05/'06 |
