November 17th you all can get a chance to compete and ride with the Pros! We are having an event called "Pros and Joes". Right now we have the following riders coming out.
Scott Byerly, Keith Liberg, Ben Greenwood, Shaun Watson, Aaron Reed, Kevin Henshaw, Keith Lyman.
ONLY 27 spots available. They will fill up quick!
More still to be announced. This should be a fun event. Finally, something here in south florida.
I copied the event description below, but you can also go to www.sfwake.com to get more info soon. We will start registration September 18th. First come first serve. Only 27 spots available.
The South Florida Wakeboarding Association (SFWA) is excited to announce the "Pros and Joes" wakeboarding/wakeskating event to be held
on November 17, 2007 at Okeeheelee Park located in Palm Beach County at 7715 Forest Hill Blvd, West Palm Beach, FL 33413.
Description of the Wake Event
The event is a unique concept in the world of competitive wakeboarding. As of right now, we have a commitment for participation from nine (9) professional riders (names include Scott Byerly, Ben Greenwood, Aaron Reed, Keith Lyman, Shawn Watson) some of which are wakeboarders, some of which are wakeskaters. For each pro rider
there will be three local amateurs allowed into the tournament. So as of right now there will be twenty seven (27) local riders plus ten (9)
professional riders giving a total of thirty six (36) riders. At the beginning of the day (approximately 9:00am) the pro riders will select
two amateur riders at random, this will be the pro riders "team". The teams will compete behind the boats against each other through out the day with a winning team emerging at the end of the day. There will be judges and a tournament MC hosting the event and describing the tricks to the masses. Again, it will give amateur riders the opportunity to do something they may never get another chance to do-ride with the professionals.
Event Overview
The event is designed to give amateur riders in South Florida the opportunity to not only meet pro-level wakeboarders and wakeskaters
but to ride with them as well. It is also a "coming out" event so to speak that will be the first step in making Palm Beach County relevant
in wake related sports. The SFWA is dedicated to this purpose and our intention is to make this a family event that will attract both the hard core wake enthusiast and the casual observer. It will be an all day event starting at 10:00am and lasting until roughly 6:00pm. The SFWA members will man the event with our membership of approximately 100 people.

All skill levels, the contest is unique in two senses:
1. It will let wakeboarders and wakeskaters compete on the same team and at the same time instead of splitting them apart, and
2. Anyone no matter what the skill level can and is encouraged to participate-let me explain---
First, the overall concept is to give amatuers a chance to do something they might never do and that is compete with and against the pros. No preset skill level, if you want to enter-enter and compete.
The judging will be based on a combined team score (four riders per team-one pros/three joes) reached by judging each rider based on their individual skill level. When you registar you have to let us know your skill level (honestly because you will be judged accordingly). The judges are very knowledgable in what each level should be and you will be judged against that level. Your score along with your teammates will add up to be a team score. So no matter what you level you can compete and add value to your team.
Of the people that have signed up thus far, there are going to be some really good riders and there are going to be some fun riders to watch .
Again, the idea is an event for everyone. Hope this answers the question. |

Appreciate the comment but is only $125 if you are a member and membership is $20. So $145 total. This includes a BBQ dinner with the pros the night before, riding the next day behind new 08 x-stars, a t-shirt, food and drink throughout the day, access to the rider tent and a chance to win a brand new 2008 liquid force board and bindings. So it comes with alot but to each their own. If you not going to ride in the tournament just coming out is what it is all about. A good time watching people ride. See you there. |
